Extraordinary

Truly words can not describe how absolutely enchanting this stay was. Our hosts were the most gracious we have ever experienced with VRBO. The property absolutely exceeded expectations; the VRBO pics and description just can not truly depict the magic of this place!! We packed a cooler, took some blankets and spent an afternoon on the dock. Stunning. I cooked several meals in the most well appointed VRBO kitchen I have ever been in. Thank you. We can't wait to come back!

Solitude in Paradise

This cottage is appropriately referred to as in the tree tops, close to the main house yet very private. Very beautiful and extremely gracious of the host to allow full use of his property walking through the gardens and walking down to the water. John is nearby either in person or by phone to support you and whatever you need for your trip. The bottom line is would I stay here again and the answer is yes and that’s all you need to know

Outstanding Place To Stay

Wow, what a fantastic place to stay during our visit to the Northeastern shore of Maine! Everything about the place was first class, starting with John, the owner! He formally greeted us and helped us carry our luggage to our phenomenal retreat in the woods overlooking the beauty of his land and the ocean in the near distance! This was a short drive to Bar Harbor and many other scenic towns and Acadia National Forest! We were here 6 nites and utilized every minute of our time to enjoy the sites, the hiking, the FOOD and great place to stay. I could go on and on about be! I want to thank John again for the welcoming basket of treats, and the fabulous and very informative boat ride! AND, I can’t forget our “official” BRANDY the dog! It made us want to find a dog just like her! Thanks again, John for everything!

Wonderful!!

We had a wonderful time at the Treetop Cottage. Beautiful views of the bay, along with lovely gardens surrounding the homes helped us relax from our long drive. The cottage was comfortable and had everything we needed. It was so nice to return to after our adventures during the day! We highly recommend. If we ever get back to Maine, we would definitely stay again!

It was a beautiful, clean, tree house with gardens, and beach front views. The hosts greeted us and left fresh flowers and cheese, fruit and wine. We felt very special. They also took us out in their boat which we will always remember. We would stay here again. It was wonderful.

Wonderful Stay

John and Anne are wonderful hosts who went above and beyond to make us feel so welcome. The property is even more incredible in person. You can tell that so much thought went into designing the cottage and main house. Loved having dinner on the deck and spending evenings on the screened-in porch overlooking Cadillac mtn. Great location out of the way, but still accessible to Acadia. Really look forward to returning-thanks for everything, John!

Wonderful Lakeside Cottage

What a lovely, spacious retreat for my husband and I as we explored the Acadia area! We loved the view looking down through the trees to the bay from all three levels. It is much quieter on the Schoodic peninsula than on the main island, but the cottage is still only about 50 minutes from the hikes and sights near Bar Harbor. We also loved going to Schoodic Point to watch the waves. John and Ann graciously took us for a delightful ride in the bay on their personal boat. They really thought of every amenity we might need, as well as the welcoming touch of flowers, fruit, cheese, crackers and wine. They were available when needed but gave us privacy as well. Their insights and information of the area were also helpful.

Everything about this property was amazing! The hosts were always quick to respond before our arrival and made sure we didn’t need anything during our visit. They have everything you need there and the views are stunning. We felt so relaxed and comfortable during our stay and definitely plan to return soon. We sat on the deck a lot and just enjoyed nature. Definitely a 10/10 experience!

Best VRBO Experience Ever

We were heading to Maine / Acadia National Park for the first time and were fortunate enough to find this absolute gem of a property and the best hosts we’ve ever had. The cottage is in the treetops of the Schoodic Peninsula across from Bar Harbor, just down from the main house. Breathtaking views in all weather. We dined in quite a bit to relax in the peaceful serenity of the 2nd floor screened in porch. Comfortable bed, all the amenities you need, and a host that goes above and beyond to make sure you have the trip of a lifetime. Kayaks onsite for your use plus recommendations for great hiking and biking trails. Thank you John and Ann for one of our best trips ever!

A trip to remember

My partner, Samuel and I were more than pleased with everything about John’s lovely cottage in the woods. It has everything you may need, and is a short drive from many great hiking and food spots. Samuel and I would occasionally see John and his golden retriever, Brandy, in passing during our stay. He is an amazingly knowledgeable and kind host, and Brandy could not have been more friendly. We could not have imagined a better place to stay while visiting Acadia. We hope to return in the future.

Second wonderful stay!

This was our second trip to John’s place and it was just as lovely as the first time. We enjoyed the screened in porch and incredible view of the mountains and ocean. John left us some wine, cheese, fruit, and crackers and helped us with our bags. We had a relaxing week hiking, visiting Bar Harbor, and just hanging out at home. We were even able to see tons of fireworks from the porch on the 4th of July! There’s also a new deck and dock for kayaking and exploring low tide. We had a lovely stay and would recommend staying here highly!

Dream Vacation!

John’s Treetops Cottage is all that is promised and more. From his personal greeting (including the tail-wagging welcome from Brandy the golden retriever) right up to a private tour of the bays on his vintage boat, it was a perfect vacation. The cottage is absolutely beautiful and felt just like home away from home. This is one of those rare VRBO gems that is even better than its photos…the cottage itself and surrounding scenery are just so lovely. We had everything we needed, and we so enjoyed all the amenities including a kayak trip out onto the waters of the bay right out front. We enjoyed the screened in balcony during a rainstorm, and the outside deck in the sunshine. The place really feels like a private retreat. This is truly a special place and we hope to return someday soon.

Couldn’t be better

This property was located with views of Frenchmen’s Bay. We had a number of meals and drinks on the deck early in the morning and evenings. The property was well equipped and spotless. John was a most gracious host as was his dog Brandy. It is a great location, less than an hour to Bar Harbor and Acadia NP. Only minutes from the Schoodic area of the park and Winter Harbor. Gouldsboro is much less hectic than Dessert Island and we really enjoyed the quiet solitude. There was easy access to numerous restaurants and Lobster pounds. Our week there was fantastic and went by much too fast. Highly recommended.

Down East Serenity

My husband and I were second time renters at the tree tops cottage. There is so much to see and do in the area that we hated to leave… again! Hiking, history, antiques, great restaurants, kayaking from the property, quaint villages, leaf peeping and the ocean with its great tides…now I want to go back!! The cottage was a perfect place to relax after a day of exploring. Beautiful views from every window and door! Nicely appointed and very comfortable. We felt at home right away. John and golden retriever Brandy are wonderful hosts which adds to the experience for sure. The stay included extras that you just don’t find at most rentals. Surprises like a fresh fruit bowl and flowers, how nice! A great experience!

BEYOND AMAZING!

The Tree house cottage way exceeded our expectations! John greeted us outside in the midst of arriving during Hurricane Lee and helped us get all our luggage into the cabin. He was able to get us in a few hours early as well which we were byline grateful after driving the last 16 hours through the night and the storm. Flowers, cheese and wine were waiting for us upon arrival as well. The cabin was clean and cozy and we didn't want to leave. After long days of hiking we couldn't wait to return to the cabin to settle in for dinner and reading by the indoor gas fireplace. Thankfully, we were able to take his kayaks out on the water for a wonderful adventure to the island across the bay. John also took us out for an amazing boat ride in his fully restored boat! Great conversation and seal watching completed the evening. I cannot express my gratitude to John on making our stay beyond memorable. He also came outside at 6am to see us off the following Saturday. We will most certainly love to come back to Maine and will ONLY consider staying at this property again. Thank you so much!

A peaceful retreat

Tucked away from the crowds along tree lined roads is a magical three story fairytale cottage. You are welcomed by the inn keeper and his family who are very knowledgeable about the area, happy to grant your wishes to make your stay extraordinary. Very well appointed, you will find everything needed for a comfortable and pleasant time. Enjoy unobstructed views of Mt Desert Island across the shimmering Frenchman’s Bay. You are steps away from Acadia Parks ideallic Schoodic Point “The hidden Acadia”. Another must see is Tidal Falls, part of Frenchman Bay Conservancy. Enjoy outdoor concert there on Wednesdays, visit the Chamber of Commerce for other events. There are several stores with Winter Harbor Provisions and Young’s Market being closest. John was kind enough to offer us a boat tour of the areas waters aboard a vintage cabin cruiser that was the high point of our busy but restful stay at Tree Top Cottage.

Amazing views from a cute cottage

For our first trip to Maine, Tree Tops Cottage did not disappoint! We were blessed with great weather, beautiful scenery, amazing experiences, and a wonderful place to stay. The views are amazing. We appreciated the little touches like a personal welcome/check-in, fresh cut flowers, and wine & cheese on arrival! You can tell that John truly cares about your experience! From strolling through the gardens to getting a tour of Frenchman's Bay & Bar Harbor by boat, we thoroughly enjoyed our week in the tree tops! We enjoyed lobster and other seafood from The Lobstore that we brought back and prepared at the cottage, the kitchen has everything you need! We hiked at Taft Point, Schoodic Peninsula - and the Sundew trail, Parkman Mountain to Hadlock Falls, and Mt. Battie to overlook Camden Harbor! On a local's recommendation, we ventured north to Milbridge one day and had lunch at The Knotty Lobster, saw the best rocky coast at McClellan Park, and walked through the community garden. We went to see Bass Head Lighthouse, Owl's Head Lighthouse, and walked the 7/8 mile trek to Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse. With so much to see and do in Maine, we looked forward to coming back to tree tops each evening to enjoy dinner and drinks while appreciating the amazing views!

He was a great source of information on dining, sightseeing, wild life and hiking and was instantly available when we had questions about the house and beyond. The house is a gem-- beautiful, tasteful, comfortable and equipped with everything for cooking. The boat trip on French bay was an unexpected bonus. Thank you, John, for a great week. Bob&Gary
