The bed was very comfortable I liked it a lot. The hotel design is also superb and I really liked the idea of pone shutter closing both the toilet and bathroom door. The breakfast can be improved to accommodate the international travellers better.

Beds comfortable. But rooms have mold on the ceiling and when we asked we were told that we could change our room but all rooms were the same. Coffee good and bfast good in the morning if you stick with pastries. Dinner buffet disappointing. Very helpful staff, though. With a little tic, this would be comfortable and decent place to stay.

BEAUTIFUL HOTEL, POOR SERVICE! (BEWARE OF FRAUD)
For all the white glove service, and friendly smiles at arrival, the hotel didn't live up to it's promise. Staffers had a better command of the English language than most typical hotels in the area, but failed to be helpful when it most mattered. The front desk (which had a convenient currency exchange service) was fully aware of how fraudulent taxicab drivers were in the city, and gave no advance warning to clients. After I was defrauded by a taxi-cab driver of over Y450 through a very slick scheme, the front desk confirmed to me that the bills the driver had passed on to me were all fake, and described in detail how the fraud was perpetrated. It was definitely medicine after death! It made no sense that they were that aware of what was going on and wouldn't warn clients ahead. They almost seemed complicit in the fraud. Also anytime you complained about anything was when their command of the English always disappeared. I quickly came to realize that it was their way of avoiding responsibility- a standard way of not wanting to solve clients' complaints or problems. I left a country I had fallen in love with, very bitter and disillusioned. Will never stay here again, nor visit China. SAD! :-(

This was not the 1st time I stayed at Royal Tulip. The services was good previously but the recent experience that I had was not so pleasant. The check in staff was kind of rude, my mini bar was lock, remains of hair in the bathroom drainage wasn't clear on a daily basis.

Beautiful Hotel , Excelent rooms.
Love the rooms, the space , the housekeeping service , the 24 hour option for room service , most of the staff understand english, very clean ! Very easy to get taxi ir transportation from the hotel, very quite and restful . Beautiful rooms , bar and dinning room.

A tired hotel
I was very underwhelmed by this Hotel. We apparently got a room upgrade (I would hate to see what our original room was like). There were watermarks and cracking on the walls, the furnishings had the veneer peeling away from them in places and the handle for the cupboard in which the minibar was kept was broken. Basically I got the impression that this, once upon a time, may have been a nice Hotel (albeit quirky in terms of some of the furnishings, room set-up, insect theme of prints on the walls etc) but has just been allowed to fall into disrepair and now presents as shabby and tired. I am not usually a complainer but I was seriously disappointed. There was a brochure in the room that set out all the Tulip brand of Hotels. There are the Tulip Inns (3 stars), the Golden Tulip Hotels (4 stars) and the Royal Tulips - which are supposed to be 5 star and top of the brand. Based on the Royal Tulip in Guangzhou I would not book another Tulip Hotel and will revert to the more well known and trusted brands.

Far away from downtown.
Our first room was supposed to be a non smoking room when we checked in, it reeked of cigarettes. We asked for a second room, the key didn't work and we waited in the hall way with our luggage for about 20 minutes waiting for them to fix the lock. No apologies were offered. It wasn't a good start and a good impression.

Not that great experience
When we first check in, the reception staffs are not collaborative. They are not helping each other and did not greet customers well. Waited for a while to be served and we check in our original booking room and it smells terrible of cigarette. Then they do not have other similar rooms for us as the hotel was fully booked and we need to pay an extra RMB208 for upgrade. In total we paid RMB908, we should have a little extra to stay in a 5 star hotel in the CBD area. While checking out, we waited 15 minutes to be served by the reception. I would only rate this hotel a 2.5 star.

Nice hotel but not the ideal location
You will hardly find a better price for a 5 star hotel, we stayed there 5 nights and the only 2 things I would complain is the heating and the location. The location is not too far from downtown Guangzhou but there is just nothing close by except old buildings, roads and highways, so we always had to take a cab everyday nevertheless you do not need to worry because they have a good sound proof windows so it is quiet inside. The heating was partially working inside the 2 rooms that I have been, it was not cold inside but it did not allow me to go up to the temperature I wanted. Other than that everything was great, the service, the breakfast and its variety, the cleanliness of the rooms and hotel, the spa, the pool, the amazing massage etc.. Overall, if you are looking for a very quiet place and if you don't mind to be a little outside the action and don't mind what surrounds you, this is definitely the place to go
