Spacious, modern, well-appointed apartment in a great location, steps from hip bars, laid-back restaurants and one of the best patisseries this side of Paris. Handy bus lines right outside and a 12 minute walk to the Altona station for rail and S-Bahn put all of Hamburg within easy reach.
With a full bathroom, plus a separate toilet and a large living room with comfortable sofas and a full dining table, it really can accommodate large groups. We were four (mother + 3 big kids) and grateful to have the space to spread out. The lock box outside is perfect for sharing a single key among guests.
The hosts are super responsive. We had a minor disaster when my oldest daughter locked us out, and the hosts responded within minutes and provided a spare key in another lock box nearby.
The only drawback are the curtains, which don't sufficiently block out the light -- not a minor detail in Hamburg in June, when nights are very short. With windows open, street noise can be an issue.
And the hairdryer that every other guest has commented on is still broken.
But this is a great base for independent-minded travelers looking for a taste of the laid-back charm of this beautiful city.
