Hale Luana: Private Home on 2.5 Acres w/Ocean Views, Hot Tub, & 600 sq ft Lanai

Welcome to Hale Luana, the house of comfort and relaxation. This grand home is so comfortable you will not want to leave. Located just south of famed Honoka'a on the historic Hamakua Coast and close to Waipio Valley, Waimea, waterfalls, quaint shopping spots and ocean adventure areas.

***Please note: all rates apply to 2 guests. Additional guests are $50 per night plus taxes. Maximum occupancy is 10 guests.***

Our on-site (located in a downstairs detached dwelling) caretakers are available for guests who would like a greeting and orientation to the estate and are readily available to assist you during your stay. Parents please be aware that the property is not safe for walking babies, toddlers or small children because of many unprotected stairs, high-end and breakable decor. We welcome older children and infants (equipment is provided including a port-a-crib, high chair, pack'n'play and infant gym).

As you enter the 2.5 acre property through the palm lined driveway, you'll know you've found your 'home away from home'. Walk up the wide front stairs and pause on the front lanai to enjoy the expansive lawn and garden views. Then step inside and be greeted by the grand, open living spaces. The living room, dining area and kitchen are all open with a high, vaulted ceiling and wide sliding doors that open onto the huge lanai with an ocean view. Trade breezes flow through the plantation style house daily. Our favorite spot is the 600 square foot back lanai where you can gaze upon the ocean, dine on the teak table with seating for 6 or walk down to the hot tub on the deck below. The kitchen is stocked with everything you'll need for cooking 'today's catch' or farmer's market produce. The living room has plenty of comfortable seating for your group, a flat screen TV, stereo and music library. Additional to the outside dining is the inside dining with another long table and seating for 10. Just off the kitchen is a large reading room with 4 comfy chairs and ottomans and a full library to indulge in.

While the living spaces of the house are all open concept, the 4 bedrooms are each contained in one of the four corners of the house for utmost privacy. Both the Primary Bedroom and Bedroom 2 have king size beds, en-suite bathroom, flat screen TV and access to the back lanai through French doors that are screened in case you want to sleep with the doors open and the breezes and sounds of nature. The Primary Suite also includes walk-in closets. The Primary Bathroom is elegantly designed with a walk-in marble shower with 2 shower heads and marble bench as well as a soaking tub, a separate WC and double vanity sinks. Bedrooms 3 and 4 share a luxurious bathroom complete with marble tile and a bathtub with a shower. Bedroom 3 has a king size bed and flat screen TV and Bedroom 4 has a queen size bed and lovely garden views. Each of the 4 bedrooms is finished with high quality linens, elegant touches, ceiling fan and view of either the ocean or gardens. There is additional sleeping on a single pull-out bed in the living room and a couch with a firm, down cushion long enough for a small adult to comfortably sleep.

Hale Luana is the complete gathering spot vacation rental. With plenty of room for each guest to spread out inside or out, a large hot tub and 600 square foot ocean view lanai. This is a place you'll come back to year after year....start your experience now!

***Please note that this property is not equipped with air conditioning. It does however feature excellent ventilation with ceiling fans throughout.***

Honoka’a's Best!
My three adult children, spouses, and I enjoyed a wonderful stay at this house. It was exactly as described: isolated, welcoming, relaxing. The large lanai was ideal for sipping morning coffee while watching the ocean. We enjoyed meals and playing cards at the large dining table. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was spacious, and everything was very clean. Bring earplugs as the roosters and cows are noisy before 5 AM. There is no ceiling fan in Bedroom #4.

We couldn't have asked for a more perfect home and location to celebrate our son's wedding. We owned a home and raised our kids in that neighborhood 15 years ago.

We had a wonderful stay at Hale Luana. It was restful & generally quiet. That was much appreciated. The house was well-equipped and all on one level. The kitchen was amazing. The Lani and view are amazing. Every room just called for you to spend time there. A sitting area just off the entrance became my wife's favorite location for her craft work. I used one end of the dinning table to set up my laptop and the files I brought to work on. The view out to the ocean will capture you attention. We watched three whales linger in the area and performed their courtship frolic. You are an hour's drive away from Akaka Falls and two world-class botanical gardens. In the other direction you have the isolated Waipio Valley. Having James & Louise nearby available for questions or assistance is a big plus for this property. If you have an issue or need it gets address promptly. When we return to this corner of Hawaii we intend to stay here again.

Delightful
Our experience at Hale Luna was truly delightful. The house offered ample space, a breathtaking view, a peaceful neighborhood, and was equipped with everything necessary for our comfort. The hosts went above and beyond, regularly checking in on us to ensure our needs were met and providing valuable recommendations for local attractions and dining options. We couldn't have asked for a better stay.

Beautiful House
The house is beautiful and does not lack in amenities. The kitchen is well stocked and provides any tool you may desire. The library is stocked with a great variety of books and games which was a pleasure to puruse. The abundant nature sounds are intriguing yet the house offers enough of a barrier to sleep soundly. The bed was very comfortable. Unfortunately the cleanliness was disappointing. The house looks/is a bit neglected with many small maintenance items needing attention. When I pointed out the concern about the cleanliness to the caretaker she was more than helpful and recalled the cleaner. Also some of the maintenance items were addressed. She also assured me that the stained bedroom carpet was just waiting the arrival of the new carpets and will be replaced. The property is lovely however has been left to go wild as the grass was uncut and the yard around the hot tub is un-kept. With all this said the house ticked all the boxes for a quiet and natural Hawaiian vacation.

A true "out of the way" gem on the Big Island
I have been to Hawaii over 60 times and I wanted to stay away from it all and have a different Big Island experience and this lovely home did not disappoint. This house was one of the most well stocked VRBO's I have ever stayed in and I have stayed in countless. The location was isolated and perfect with a beautiful lanai to take it all in. Our host could not have been more communicative and helpful. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a truly special Hawaiian paradise location away from the hustle and bustle and yet close to Waimea, Waipio and Hilo. 5 stars all around.

Authentic Hawaii
Hale Luana offers a beautiful ocean view located in a peaceful setting, away from the bustle of town. The pastoral sounds of cows, roosters, dogs, and geckos are part of its charm. This unique home offers spacious living quarters and a well-equipped, full kitchen. Our hosts were very helpful, attentive, and offered good advice about local sights. Mahalo!

Great experience
Overall, we had a great time at Hale Luana. The lanai is fabulous and we spent a lot of time out there watching the waves, listening to the cows and chickens nearby and gazing at the stars. The house is just as listed . Very spacious and comfortable. Communication with the onsite caretakers was excellent! Hope to visit again in the future.

This property was exactly as advertised. Very nice!!! Spacious beautiful home with a great view. I loved waking up to the roosters crowing. Remote, but an easy drive to activities and sight seeing on the island. We would definitely stay here again. The ocean breeze cooled the house nicely in the evenings. Wonderful place to relax and unwind. Property managers/caretaker lives on the property and was available to answer any questions we had.

Excellent. One quibble: Guests should know that when the online listing says the property manager is "on site," it means that the property manager is in the same building. The property managers are respectful and nonintrusive, but there is a difference.

Unique Big Island location
Paauhaua is a small community between Wiamea and Hilo (40 miles) The property has fabulous ocean views, but no access. You will be driving to the island's attractions be it volcano, waterfall or beach. Very peaceful with nature all around, fresh ocean breezes and ample lanai make outdoor dining a pleasure. Well-appointed kitchen in open floor plan with dining and living area. Master suite and additional bedroom suite open onto the ocean facing lanai. Sufficient room for our six adults to stretch out and have privacy.

Peaceful escape
This house is amazing!! While it was further out of Waimea than anticipated it was a blessing! Big family dinners each night. Coffee on the Lanai every morning with the light drizzle, breeze and ocean view. House is well appointed from kitchen to beach towels and toys ( no need to pack this stuff). The rooms are all so comfortable with fans and/or screen doors for fresh air. 45 minutes to Holland an hour to Kona it is perfectly placed. Stay here — you will not regret it😀

Peaceful old Hawaii with a million dollar view and modern comforts
Louise and James have a wonderful place on the Hamakua coast on former sugar cane land. Situated a few hundred feet off the ocean, we enjoyed beautiful sunrises and sunsets as well (although the sun sets over Kohala, the glow of the clouds over the ocean is magical). It’s not close to the beach, but it’s well situated on the big island for day trips to Kilauea, Mauna Kea, the Pololu trail, and Waipio valley is just a short drive away. Nearby Honokaa is not a big town but has everything you need, including early mornings at Tex’s Drive in and evenings at the Honokaa Public house. The house itself is extremely well equipped, with high end kitchen appliances and items like cheeseboards and espresso machines that you’d rarely see in a rental. The expansive lanai was a favorite hangout spot of ours. The master bath is something you need to see to experience. His and hers walk in closets and a double shower. Louise and James are friendly hosts who will be there when you need them but otherwise you may forget there are others on the several acre, well maintained property. After a couple days on the Kona side, what a relaxing way to escape from all the (other) tourists!

Nice but a bit misleading
The description of the property implies that it is a house, and private, but we learned on arrival and the house is actually divided into three parts--the main floor was for our sole use, the lower floor are two apartments for the caretaker and his mother. All share the laundry room downstairs, and the hot tub is on the lower level just outside the door of one of the residents. The caretaker's cigarette smoke would waft from his lanai to ours just above. the view was lovely, and we enjoyed our stay, but it wasn't exactly what we were expecting.
