Ginsyou is an older, well maintained property. Not all that modern. We ordered the dinner and breakfast at the hotel and found it to be way over the top. We could barely get through the dinner, as there was so much of it. The breakfast also consisted of some rather unusual food that my stomach could not tolerate in the morning. And there was no coffee with it. I wouldn't recommend the breakfast.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, though.
Service of this hotel is superb. Room is sparkling clean and sea view is perfect, restaurant food is also nice. Onsen place is a bit small however and there are no shops around the hotel area.
Our family enjoyed our stay very much, thank you.
Amazing place! The only thing is that the public baths are close between 9h30am to 3pm, so during that time of you are staying more than one night at the hotel you will have not much to do in the hotel.
Room assigned with hotels.com booking was small & smelled musty, guess that's what one gets with the attractive price online. We upgraded to a larger room with sea view & it was a world of difference. The dinner and breakfast in our own private room was most enjoyable. Outdoor onsen was good but there are many better in Japan. Sand spa was walking distance but more hype than nice. You get sand shuffled on every part of body but the face, then you are left on your own until you can't stand it anymore and get up on your own, that's it.
Although the hotel still hasn’t arrived in the 21st century and apparantly does not offer dedicated non-smoking rooms and floors, the rooms seem well-vented and I would not have known I was in a smoker’s room had there not been an ashtray on the table.
Dinner was great, breakfast probably as well but I personally am not great with Japanese breakfasts. The municipal sand bath onsen is only a few minutes away and well worth a try. The most majestic feature is the hotel’s rooftop onsen, though.
Sadly, this hotel does not offer a pickup/dropoff service from Ibusuki station which is a twenty or more minute walk away. Public buses are rare.
Ibusuki itself does not offer much else to see within walking range and if it had a heyday that is long gone.
