Convenient but not all that quiet

Porta Romanos was a very affordable find for my business stay in Istanbul. A 15-minute walk from the subway I took each morning to my trade show I found the hotel quite convenient. I would say the area lacks a good choice of restaurants, but I managed to eat fine. The optional breakfast offered by the hotel was fine though the only choice in eggs was hard-boiled (perhaps my American bias showing). While my room was clean and comfortable I found the walls to be paper thin. Every night around midnight whoever was staying next door came back to their room without any care or concern for their neighbors. I could hear the shouting and laughing as if they were in my room. Only one night out of my 5-night stay was quiet next door. Otherwise, a very helpful staff and well run hotel.

small but very tidy hotel with polite staff who is helpful. Though we checked in very late but staff was prepared and welcoming, helped us park the car and kept it few extra hours without charge. 2 reception staffs (a fat boy and Serif (a night-shift guy) are very impolite and unhelpful, only 1 reception staff has good smile. In hot day, the room is too hot but air-conditioner turned off radiators turned on. In cold day, the room is cold radiator turned off. shower room has a lots of mold, toilet seat broken, room door has big gap and outside can see inside

Good experience

It was in a nice location near bus and tram, but they were not clear about the size of the room. It was much smaller than was expected, but it was fine. They refused late check out as the hotel was fully booked but overall it was a good experience that I recommend.

The hotel is located on the T1 tram line but is quite far from major Istanbul attractions. There is only one fairly small elevator, which often got crowded and took a while to arrive. The room was not ready at the stated check-in time. The room lacked noise insulation, making it difficult to have a relaxing stay. The bathroom was small and somewhat poorly designed with the door hitting the toilet when opened. Breakfast was average with a limited selection. Hotel staff had difficulty communicating in English. Therefore, even the basic requests required numerous explanations and reminders.

Wouldn't recommend

Breakfast was not nice and we think it was from the breakfast served that made us all ill. Bedding was dirty, fridge never worked and key card would stop working every other use and would need to be reset. Also location wasn't very good as it was too far out from the tourist spots in istanbul but this was my fault for not researching correctly.
