The Historic Van Zant House (Skynyrd)

This historic home is the childhood home of the Van Zant family, including Lynyrd Skynyrd founder Ronnie Van Zant. The epic rise to fame of the original version of Lynyrd Skynyrd was tragically cut short by a plane crash in 1977 that took Ronnie's life, and that of several other members of the band. But their music will live forever, and hopefully this house will stand as well as a living tribute to the Van Zants. Inside this main house, you'll find some cool memorabilia, a vintage 1938 Brunswick pool table, and a retro 70's feel, to remind us all of the way things were, with a hint of nostalgia. Your visit will help ensure this house forever remains a part of Rock n Roll history! See also, our other three listings at VZH - the Annex, Studio, and Hideaway. Contact us to book larger groups! Please note: if you have sensitive allergies, any of the other three units would be better for you. This is a large unit, with many nooks and crannies, and although we do our absolute best to keep it spotless, it can get musty in the summer when the ACs are off for any length of time and a very few people have had allergy issues, although 99% of guests are fine and enjoy the 60's-70's vibe! This is not totally modern and it does upset a very tiny minority of guests who have sensitive allergies. Refunds will not be given if you book and fail to understand the retro vibe or if you have allergy issues.
During your stay at this holiday home, you'll be within walking distance of Criswell Park. You'll find features such as an arcade/games room. Enjoy your stay with amenities like a kitchen and 1.5 bathrooms in the holiday home.

Roots of Southern Rock
The Van Zant house is a living memorial for fans of Ronnie Van Zant and family to enjoy. This home is not for modern conveniences and comfort. The pool table and musical instruments are a great addition. This place was exactly what I thought it would be, I enjoyed every minute!

Awesome experience in a historical home!
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Van Zant House...It was exactly how Todd described it...Very retro to keep with the vibe of the 60's and 70's...The location was great. We were within 30 minutes of all the Van Zant history sites, dive bars, restaurants, and even had a day at Neptune Beach! We had an awesome time and definitely will be back!

Awesome!
It brought me back to my teenage days growing up in Florida, remembering the legends that lived there, when their songs were released, it was an experience my daughter and I will never forget.

Amazing piece of history
This was an incredible experience for us. You have to realize that the house is not a modern, remodeled home. That would take away from everything that it should be, a very authentic form of the home Ronnie and his family grew up in. We also highly suggest anyone reach out to Gene Odom and do a tour with him. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for Skynyrd fans!

Would stay here again in a heartbeat!
My 17 year old is a huge Skynyrd fan so when we saw we could rent this property we jumped on it. Listing is very accurate. It is a 70s vibe. We had everything we needed, felt safe in the neighborhood, host was very easy to stay in contact with. My son is already ready to come back.

Cool place. Neat slice of History right down the road from The Jug. Consider booking this place the more bookings the cooler this place can be. The pool room and the living room have great vibes. The home is older and could use some updating while keeping the 70s feel. Be a part of music history and let your rental dollars go to keeping the Rock n Roll in this place!!

I successfully completed a long awaited bucket list item. Loved it and recommend highly !
I’ve loved Lynyrd Skynyrd and Ronnie Van Zant since 1973. When Oh I saw that the boyhood Home of Ronnie Van Zant and his family was available to rent on VRBO, I made arrangements with one of my friends who is also a huge fan to rent this home for a weekend. I was so excited when I got there I could hardly sleep! Just to imagine walking the same floors that Ronnie and his family walked was just amazing. It is an amazing experience and I would highly recommend to any Skynyrd fan ❤️🦅🎼🎸

Absolutely Fantastic Experience!
We rented the house for the weekend. We are from Orlando and were seeing the Stones in concert. The house made the weekend! We are Skynyrd and .38 Special fans and to have stayed in the cradle of southern rock was truly amazing. We shot pool, cooked in the famous "Sister" Kitchen and slept in Ronnie, Donnie and Johnny's bedroom. My boyfriend and I loved checking out all the additions and house modifications done by Lacy himself. Todd the new owner along with help from Gene Odom and others did a truly outstanding job on saving this home and getting it back to the state it is in. It is so original. We loved the brick wallpaper and the nails which still remained in the kitchen walls from Marion's pictures. We had a blast and we will back! next time for a longer stay. Alan & Jen

Great Historical Experience
This property is what it is. It is in an ordinary neighborhood and it is an older property. It is also a work in progress. The owner is very accurate in describing it. With that said it is a historical property of the beginning of southern rock music and the great bands Lynyrd Skynyrd and 38 Special. if you are a fan there is no way you can say no to this property. It is a must see. I am very excited to visit again in the future to see the progress made in the renovations and restoration of this great home. Thank you so much for saving such an iconic landmark for rock fans everywhere.

Very Truthful Review
We stayed in the Van Zant house this past weekend. It was simultaneously MORE than I expected and LESS than I expected. We chose the property because my boyfriend is a huge Lynryd Skynryd and .38 Special fan. Because of the privilege of staying in the house the Van Zants grew up in, the experience was priceless. He got to take his guitars and play and sing in the house. I think the property will improve as they continue renovations, but it is lacking in some areas at this time. As of now, there is paneling peeling off the wall in the bathroom, there are several places where the floor is unfinished concrete, and the central a/c doesn't work. The house is not "retro 70s", it is real 70s. I didn't realize that there were apartments attached to the house, so there are neighbors that share the fenced yard and some interior walls. The house has a musty smell, which is somewhat normal for a house that is shut-up for periods of time in Florida heat. The pool table was nice, but there was only one cue with a tip. The televisions are old and only had a few channels. We had three adults in our group, so we were provided three towels. There were no extra towels for the second day of our stay and no washcloths. The trash can didn't have a trashbag. These are all small things, but they detracted from our ability to relax. We had to make a trip to the store to get air freshener and other supplies. All in all, the house was lacking in some of the things I expect when I pay this much for a stay. However, I want to be very clear that the house was VERY CLEAN. It did show signs of its age, but it is not dirty. The central a/c doesn't work, but the house has plenty of box fans. The house is what it is. If you don't want to stay in a property that feels like it is from the 70s and is in the middle of refurbishment, then you won't be happy here. If the owner removed every trace of the original structure and moved it to a better neighborhood, then the experience of staying in the Van Zant childhood home would be lost. Without reservation, I recommend this house to a fan of the Van Zants. I do not recommend this house if you are looking for fancy accommodations.

Down South Jukin'!
What an amazing 48 hours I spent at the Van Zant house! Average hotel experiences are a dime a dozen, so staying in this former family home of Ronnie, Johnny and Donnie was a unique opportunity I could not pass up. I flew all the way from Oregon for my spring break in Memphis and Nashville with a friend, then capped off my vacation by spending two incredible nights here on my own. I had a blast playing Skynrd tunes on my phone while shooting pool by myself. Then I sat in the kitchen and imagined all the great meals "Sister" would cook for everyone. The highlight of my trip was a tour of local Skynrd haunts from Gene Odom! I can tell Todd and his team are committed to preserving this place for all of us rock music fans. As the info. states, it's a work in progress. Don't rent it if you are expecting Air BnB glossiness. Go for the Skynrd spirit and you won't be disappointed!

"Made in the Shade"
what a blast for any skynyrd fan! my brother and I brought our guitars and jammed to skynyrd all night. Paid the ferry man at Ronnie, Lacy's, Allen and Leon resting place. Spent the afternoon drinking at the Jug loading the Jukebox with every skynyrd song they had 384. Spent time sitting in the house or walking around the grounds talking about what all went on there. Truly a special trip which we both decide we be done again. Prior to the trip Todd the owner was a great host and very helpful in getting us ready for the trip. I can't thank you enough he truly understood how important this trip was for us... we will definitely do this " one more time"....sorry had to

Staying at the house is one of the best experiences of my life.
Here are some of the highlights from our stay. Gene Odom and Tom Wills (news4jax) stopping by and then touring the house with a camera crew following, 100’s of fans stopping by to take pictures with the sign, the care takers (James and Lenita), the neighbor TJ and his orange Chevy truck, and several childhood friends of the band that still live in the neighborhood stopping by. The stay was awesome and I did not want it to end. I highly recommend staying here.
