The Magical Bungalow OBX is an original OBX 'Beach Box' style home, that was re-imagined and renovated by Live Swell Custom Homes.

(Please keep in mind, the house is located on a direct beach access with parking, at times it can get full. Most love the feel, others may not.)

Downstairs "Storage Room"-
The enclosure located on ground level, has a separate entrance and is not as upgraded like the upper level main living area. It was not designed as living space, is primarily used as storage and sleeping is not recommended.

Please note: While renovated, this is an older original beach home. As a piece of OBX history, that's OK though as it all adds to the charm and soul of the Magical Bungalow.

Guest Access:
Guests have access to the entire home and property. For those, that enjoy clean laundry, like us, we have a washer + dryer set up in the garage area.

Housekeeping, Maintenance, Inspection & Cleaning Notes:
We believe a very clean & functional home is of the utmost importance for our guests upon arrival. Between each guest stay our beach homes are thoroughly cleaned, sanitized & inspected.

All of our in-house housekeepers are trained in our proprietary ‘Sparkling Clean’ cleaning process and as of 2025 every beach house contains at least one floor-cleaning Robot on-site. Our staff also includes a full-time licensed Builder, so if an unlikely maintenance issue does occur, you can feel confident it will be fixed fast!

As further commitment to delivering an exceptional stay a ‘Quality Assurance Inspection’ occurs prior to arrival.

Pet Friendly Guidelines:
We love dogs and are happy to have your four-legged family members join you. Due to additional detailed cleaning required following a pet stay we do request a fee of $25 per night.

Please note:
• One dog max
• Some breeds may not be permitted due to insurance restrictions
• This fee does not include excessive pet hair removal, stain removal on fabrics or droppings pick-up

Check-Out Expectations:
We invest a lot of time, money and effort to deliver exceptional stays for our guests. If deliberate damage, disrespect or lack of basic cleanliness is identified during the check-out inspection process, the guest of record will be charged to compensate needed cleaning and ensure the property is ready for incoming guests.

Perfect location !!
The home was inviting & very comfortable. My arrival was delayed and i notified my host it would be after midnight. I was very pleasantly surprised to find they had turned all the lights on for me. It was an incredible trip. I set my alarm every morning and walked up to the beach and witnessed some of the most beautiful sunrises I have EVER been fortunate to see And seashells.... GALORE on this part of the beach. I highly recommend and I will hopefully be back again next year!!

Fine but not as upscale as I expected
The location is close to the beach, and the place is overall fine. The owners were kind and prompt in our correspondence. For the price, I had expected a higher-quality experience. There were ants coming in the kitchen window (multiple ants every day all day), and we were given bug spray to address the problem. The primary bedroom had cheap flooring. The "bonus" room was so musty that even after a week outside, the beach chairs still smelled. Even clothes washed in the laundry room held the musty smell. Generally, fine, but I had thought Vrbo was a bit more upscale.

Perfect quiet getaway
My fiancé, 14lb Border Terrier and I stayed for a week and it was the perfect vacation. The food recommendations were amazing (thank you!) and we adored the coffee shop. We went every morning. The house is beautiful, clean and very cozy. My favorite part of the day was chilling on the hammock. We rented this adorable place the end of April and look forward doing it again next year!

Amazing beach access
The super short walk to the beach is what made this property ideal. Room for a family of 4 to spread out enough that we didn’t get on each others’ nerves. Hammock was a huge plus. Nice to have a boogie board to us, didn’t need the bikes. Ice maker in the fridge with frosted mugs, a nice touch!

The house was very clean and well-maintained. The owners were easily accessible and contacted us to make sure everything was going well. The beach was an even shorter distance to walk than we, originally, thought. Great surprise! It was very relaxing place to hang out and be connected to the area/beach at the same time. Wonderful place to vacation at!

Lovely Bungalow
Our family so enjoyed the Magical Bungalow. The upstairs renovations are just beautiful, and the house is so comfortable and conducive to wonderful hang out time, while also being in really close proximity to the beach and many fun restaurants. We had a great vacation!

Perfect beach bungalow--adorable, clean and great location!
The Magic Bungalow was the perfect beach house for family--which includes two younger teens and our adult daughter who came with her boyfriend. The remodel of the older house is really charming and it is obvious that the owners have dedicated a lot of thought into making the house a welcome place for guests. And, two balconies! We sat on the front balcony the most, as did our dogs. It was just beautiful. The layout of the house worked very well for our family, as the basement bedroom gave our adult daughter and her boyfriend a private, separate space, with their own bathroom and entrance (the laundry access is in this area as well). If our daughter and her boyfriend hadn't cared for the basement bedroom, we would have had our teens share the bedroom with the bunk bed. It turns out that they really liked that basement room--so that is where they stayed the entire time. The house is a very short walk to the beach and it is within walking distance to several restaurants and some shops. This was our first family vacation in a couple of years and we couldn't be happier--we just wish we could have stayed another week. Thank you Magic Bunaglow!

So cute! They thought of absolutely everything we could have needed/wanted! Bikes, boards, hammocks, and a book of to-dos. The space was more than enough for my friend and I celebrating graduation in the OBX. Hope to be back again soon!

Wonderful Beachy Escape
We had a fabulous time at the Bungalow!! Beach is just steps away, live music and great food also super close. The bungalow itself was perfect for our needs. We spent SOO much time on the porch just relaxing!! Michael & Maria were wonderful and super responsive, providing all kinda of wonderful recommendations (go to TRIO!!) and allowing us to check-in early, knowing we had driven down through the night. We absolutely loved it, would stay again!!

Great bungalow near the beach!
This was a wonderful property to stay at! It was immaculately clean when we arrived and had all the amenities we could need (pots/pans, toiletries, towels, sheets, etc.) It was a 2 minute walk to the beach and was on a quiet street with a porch we sat out on often. The property owners went out of our way to make sure we had a great stay and made the whole trip a true joy. It was driving distance to great shops and restaurants, mini golf, and the Wright Brothers memorial. I would book this bungalow again in a heart beat and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet trip to Kill Devil Hills.

Wonderful stay!
We had an amazing stay at the Magical Bungalow! Michael and Maria were great hosts. They were always very responsive and would check in to make sure we had everything we needed. The house was very clean upon arrival which is extremely important to us especially now. The location to the beach was super convenient and we had so much fun just relaxing on the front deck. Our kids are already asking when we will go back!

Great location. Everything you need.
This was our second time staying at the Magical Bungalow . Michelle & Michael, the owners, pay very close attention to all the small details that make a big difference. The Bungalow is well maintained, clean and updated. We were down during the no name nor’easter this past November and Michelle & Michael stopped buy to make sure we didn’t need anything. We were able to spend some time together and also got a play date for our dog Kona and their dog Puka! Looking forward to getting back again and staying at The Magical Bungalow.
