Quite conveniently located about 5 tram station ride away from Kumanoto JR station.
Room is decent sized but the toilet is too small and lights were too dim.

Okay Stay
Although from exterior the hotel looks new, the interior is abit old. For 1 night stay, it’s alright. Typical small room. Breakfast was ok, which include Kumamoto Ramen on order basis. Tasty and good.
A business type hotel and quite corporate. Clean with professional and helpful staff. Room reminded of being in an inside cabin of a ferry. Was ok as a base from which to watch rugby world cup.
One of the staff here is rude and arrogant. While speaking without eye contact, he refused to help me for my laundry request. This hotel is definately not a good option for tourists.
Arrived at the hotel and enquired with the front desk on how to enter the car park, but unfortunately there isn't one on-site (there are 2-3 parking bays in front of the hotel which aren't allowed to be used for some reason). The good news is the hotel does have an arrangement with a local carpark. The not so good news is the designated car park is on the wrong side of a one way system and wasted half an hour of our time to park the car. The only other nearby car parks charge significantly more. If you factor in that additional cost, you'd be better off staying elsewhere if you're driving. The hotel itself looks and feels like an APA hotel on the ground floor, some of this branding carries through to the common parts of the building on other floors, but the rest including the rooms, dining area and onsen are pretty shabby and not somewhere you'd choose to stay. Our room smelt mouldy, but there was an air freshening spray we used to mask the smell a little! The bed was comfortable. One staff member in particular was rude to us (very unusual for hotels in Japan), others we met were in training and were a little flustered by having to serve a customer (we didn't mind this so much as everyone has to learn). The other staff were courteous enough. The location is otherwise good within relatively easy walking distance to the main shopping / eating areas in town. I would not choose to stay here again and would think twice before staying in an APA Hotel again based on this experience.
