This hotel is absolutely lovely. Historic and charming, well located, and with a fantastic staff. It was my boyfriend’s birthday during our stay and we arrived to find a bottle of Cava (sparkling wine) and some macarons and cake, with a nice little note. The included breakfast was just what we needed to start our days, and the area was full of great restaurants and bars, including the hotel’s own rooftop. Just out front of the hotel is a miradouro (lookout) with a great view and lots of little vendors and artists. It was noisy at times but the windows included heavy duty shutters that blocked sufficient noise. We will absolutely return to the Independente when we return to Lisbon.
Internet access terrible. No lights in hallway leading to room so a small step not visible posing a hazard. Staff at check in and breakfast room very friendly and helpful. Not so for other staff: The women at door to roof top bar made no attempt to call upstairs to ask that elevator door be shut so we could use the elevator. The bartender was rude when asked what kind of wine was offered as the welcome drink replying “ guys it’s a welcome drink”. While we are grateful for it, it would not have been difficult to indicate if it’s a dry wine, or the region etc. if known. Would not be able to recommend this hotel.
A clean and busy hostel, breakfast was a nice start to the day and the staff where friendly.
The rooms had a rustic charm but bunks where sandwiched together, some rooms had three story high bunks with no railings, and there were no privacy curtains or the storage boxes where not suitable for suitcases even a travel one. I found the rooms over crowded.
Very friendly hostel with a great view and a festival area just in front. Nice facilities but if you are looking for something more party-vibe id go somewhere else. Its neither quiet neither party vibe. The range of age is from 19 to 80
Excellent breakfast. I am so happy to meet the Mama who is such a globally connected, multilingual and funnt woman. I truly enjoyed meeting her and all the staff was helpful. Make sure to request lower bed if you have height issues, bunk beds are three story high.
They didn’t even had towels for me to rent, so I couldn’t take a shower. Also an employee told me to use a taxi and another one told me not to because they were bringing tourists to the wrong place and robbing them.
The location is fantastic. This is a funky hotel- it’s an old mansion with large rooms. Half is a hostel. Breakfast is good. They also have a small rooftop bar. Very bohemian
Location was fantastic as long as you don't mind the walk up every evening (or take a car or tram). Breakfast was decent. Can be bit noisy with people singing outaide at night but that's the price for it being in a popular area. Will definitely stay again!
This was a fun and funky hostel, but our private room was very nice. It was roomy, had a small but good bathroom and a comfortable bed. The lighting could be improved. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was very nice. The location was very convenient with many good dining options very nearby. You can pick up an Tuk-Tuk across the street. It was a 10-15 Euro ride to and from the airport on Uber.
