Beautiful house in tranquil location
A haven of tranquility in a wooded hamlet above an Atlantic creek and under starry skies. We warmly recommend the property as an idyllic centre for touring this fascinating and beautiful area of Brittany. It will suit anyone wanting to write a book, research a project - or simply seeking to escape hectic daily life for a while. The hamlet, Kernisi, is a short drive from the waterside town of Daoulas, with its ancient abbey and - not least - its superb cheese shop and Sunday farmers’ market. The area is an excellent base to tour the parish closes of north west Brittany with their vibrant 15th/16th century sculpture, as well as the spectacular Crozon and Sizun peninsulas. The city of Quimper with its cathedral and half-timbered squares is an easy drive to the south by dual carriageway.
The house was built of glowing yellow local stone in 1672 in the reign of the ‘Sun King’, Louis XIV. More recently, a small extension has been added sympathetically in the same style, using identical stone. The house retains an impressive stone spiral staircase and an original fireplace bearing the date 1672.
The property is comfortably furnished with excellent cooking, bathing and sleeping amenities, free wi-fi and internet TV. Car parking is just outside the door, around the corner from the spacious patio with its views over the large garden. Hervé is a friendly and helpful host who helped to make our stay into much more than just a very memorable holiday.
