I was provided with a room that was unbearably hot, to the point where my restless night was spent on top of the covers, with a towel at the side of me, to mop sweat away. This was not a weather issue as, although the night was not cold, the temperature outside was far cooler than inside. In fact I had purchased a bar of chocolate and left it in my room, only to find it literally melted in its wrapper in the middle of the night. The room was on the top floor at the side of the elevators, and the motors were perhaps the source of the heat, but it was not good. There was no air conditioning, but was a fan in the room, which could not be used because of the noise. On top of this, the toilet roll holder kept falling off the wall, and the hot tap didn't work in the bathroom. All of this was just a nuisance, but when asked if I had enjoyed my stay, I politely explained the issues, only to be effectively told by Piotr that I was at least partly to blame for not reporting it, and the rest was just how things are. I said that it would have been unreasonable to come down to highlight things at the late hour that I settled in the room, and was told I should have used the phone. Fortunately, the far less experienced, but far more supportive Kamila apologised for the inconvenience and pacified me, but the pomposity and arrogance of the former have led me to put pen to paper. I have stayed in this hotel before without issue, but have also stayed in the tropics with less problem

The hotel is aged, and amenities sometimes are broken. However, staff follows requests very fast and repairs whatever needed. They also compensate you for issue if something was not done properly.

Stayed in a single for three nights. Room was very small but very clean and well kept. The building is older but has newer renovations. Was able to check in a little earlier than expected which I was happy about because I was jetlagged. Location is prime, very short walking distance from the tube (Holborn and Russell Sq stations), restaurants, the British Museum and 15-20 minute walk to Covent Garden. Only issues were the room was stuffy and I had to keep the windows open and use the fan, and there was a lot of noise from the streets so it was hard getting sleep at times. I'd definitely stay here again but would probably do so on the garden side. Also the toilet didn't flush all the way at times, but I think it's due to the age of the plumbing. Overall 4.5/5 stars.

The hotel was located in a very convenient and nice area: 4 minute walk from the Russell Square and 8 minute walk from the Holbrook Underground (subway) stations on the Picadilly line (purple). There is an abundance of restaurants of all prices within a 5 minute walk or less. The room was a comfortable size but the bathroom was not. The bathroom is about 16-18 inches wide. Barely enough to turn around inside. One has to pivot in order to get the door to open and exit. The bathtub should not even BE there! It has tapered sides, with a very narrow base on which to stand, making it possible to lose balance and fall inside. The bathtub should be replaced with a shower which can be made narrower, to allow for more room on the floor. The buffet breakfast was very complete. There were vegetables, hot & cold items, some basic pastries, coffee, tea and juices. But the staff kept cleaning up my table every time I went for another round of different items. This is ludicrous! All they need is some kind of marker on a table that is already occupied, such as a little carboard or flag, so they don't cleanup until the solo person actually leaves and takes the marker or puts it in a different configuration! The lunch and dinner menu was very good, but limited in variety. Service was very good. Sound insulation of the room was poor. I could hear people talking & their TV next door. Lack of air conditioning was obviously a negative. I didn't need it due to cool nights. The fan rattled.
