Comfortable hotel

The hotel is in a good location and a bit quirky. Everything was comfortable and as described. The staff were very friendly and efficient. I had no problem there and would stay again. For central London it was good value.

More Style than Substance

Hotel looks good but the bed in the Funky Zebra room was shaky and uncomfortable. The room was disgustingly hot and stuffy despite there being a fan in the room. The bathroom is cramped but okay. The staff are rude and unhelpful - I had messaged the hotel weeks before arriving to advise we would be in London far earlier than check-in and they said they'd do everything in their power to help us into the room before 2pm but when we arrived it was all forgotten and we were basically grunted at and sent away for the whole four hours until 2pm. I know they don't promise early check-in but manners cost nothing! The man on reception also promised to guard our bags until we returned to check in - when we came back to check in our bags were lying unaccompanied on the floor. You need to leave the key indoors if you leave, this is weird and annoying. Breakfast was a shambles and a joke. And if you're interested in seeing the flashy cars outside - don't bother as they're under a dustsheet and the owner doesn't appear to ever be around. Positives: it's clean enough and the location is a 15 minute walk from Hyde Park, okay for a night.

Character rooms main positive

If you are into quirky character rooms then you are in for a treat. We got the Chinese themed room "Enter the Dragon" which had a balcony facing Sussex Gardens road. This offers much needed cooling in the summer heat but may be a little noisy due to traffic at night. The room is only for slim to average sized ppl and not anyone fat or obese. Why? The doorway to the shower is only 2/3 shoulder width of a UK 12 female. The lounge which I had looked forward to seeing was shut with some poor excuse of 'malfunctioning smoke alarm', which is easy to fix and no problem since smoking is prohibited anyway. Intelligence tells me it's shut so it's one less cleaning location and for lower overheads. Please note that Edgware Road tube station is no longer on the Bakerloo line. Front desk staff is lovely and speaks good English. Not much help with recommending good food. A street nearby serves Lebanese and muslim food and shishah if you are into that. Complimentary working hair dryer is available over the front desk. Door is locked in the evenings so only guests are allowed in which is a nice safety assurance. The breakfast is substantial in good quantity though of average quality, and brought to your door because the lounge is 'conveniently' shut. Rooms are as clean as old furniture stuffed rooms can be. No bad smells detected but bed is a little hard which I suppose fits the ancient China theme. Price is reasonable all in all and if you like quirky character rooms stuffed to the gills with interesting artifacts, then it more than makes up for its weaknesses.

No good Ratio quality / price

Ratio quality / price very bad, this would be ok for 30-40 Pounds, not for the price I've paid.

Highly Unsatisfactory

I booked a single room, so I expected the tiny bedroom and bathroom (so small the sink was in the shower). However the bed was at best a day bed, at worst a child's bed. It was surrounded by iron railings so every time I moved, I hit them. I am only 5'6 and my feet touched the rails at the bottom of the bed. The mattress was thin and old, and the springs could be felt through the fabric. Thoroughly uncomfortable. The hotel obviously knew it was an inadequate offering, as on entering the room, the phone was already ringing to see if I wanted to pay for an upgrade. The duvet was stained and dirty. The wrong remote was in the room for the TV, so I couldn't use it. There was no security on the inside of the door such as a chain or anything and I felt insecure. You have to leave your room key when you go out. I would personally highly recommend you don't stay here.

Deplorable weekend in this hotel

When I arrived at this hotel I found the staff very unhelpful and quite rude. The room itself and bathroom were extremely small, the bathroom was beyond a joke. I felt like i had gone back in time staying here. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone going to London as i was very unhappy with this hotel and it's rude staff.

Maybe quirky,

Very small room. Miniscule bathroom. Very poor shower. No lights in bathroom. No lift ( room was on top floor ). Lack of electrical sockets in room. Bed was no good. Breakfast was OK. Good location, near to tube statiion.
