I originally tried to book this “house”, as it was advertised, but was rejected because the owner said that he had mistakenly advertised the wrong price, then jacked up the price up SIGNIFICANTLY for one night, then told me to resubmit with the egregiously raised new price instead of giving me the price that HE advertised. I was running out of rental options to book a going away event for a friend, so I felt compelled to book it. Then when we got there, the house was not a house at all, as he had advertised it in the description, but an upstairs apartment with adjoining thin walls, which is exactly what I wasn’t looking for as it was a Thursday night rental for a handful of friends, and I didn’t want any noise issues. We ended up getting the cops called on us for a noise complaint for our meager group, but thankfully, we were not cited a ticket. The owner even visually misrepresented the rental by taking a picture of the front apartment, which looks like a house, and advertising it as the upstairs rental that he sold me. I even conversed with him, thinking it was still a house before we arrived there, and asked if it had a front or back yard, and or fire pit, things I would expect that a house might have, but in all of my correspondence, he never mentioned that it was an apartment. Just simply that it “doesn’t have those things, but that there are parks near by.” I, along with my friends who stayed there, feel duped and swindled. I will be investigating a way to get at least a portion of the money back that I paid for a one night stay under false and purposefully misrepresented pretenses. I have used HomeAway for several trips to different destinations, and this is my first really bad experience.
