Summary:
Welcome to the Secret Garden Carriage House in Old Louisville! Your own private getaway in the middle of the largest collection of Victorian homes in the country. This carriage house was built at the turn of the century as part of the Speed Mansion (the first house in Louisville to have a telephone) at the corner of Garvin Place and Ormsby. It has been fully renovated to accommodate guests looking for a little piece of the Derby City charm.

Newly renovated kitchen includes dishwasher, oven, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and a range of cooking supplies. A bedroom with two twin beds shares a bathroom with a queen bedroom. Queen bedrooms all have white noise machines. Downstairs houses the master bedroom and private bathroom as well as a fully stocked laundry area. Guests also have access to a garage, if needed, where you can store a small, possibly mid-sized vehicle. A serene English-style private courtyard that is shared with both units is the perfect place to unwind. Solar walkway lighting illuminates the courtyard at night.

Parking:

The garage can house a small to medium sized car - additional parking is available for free on the street, which is a block up from the alley.

Great Location but there are things that need to be addressed.
I reached out to the owner to advise about the cleanliness but there were so much more. First, when we arrived, not only was the gate into the patio unlocked and open, but so was the door into the carriage house. This gave us a bad feeling about security as whomever stayed next door, kept leaving the gate unlocked and open as well. We found a smell of marijuana when walking in and we had found stuff all over the floor that I would presume was from a cigar. We messaged the owner about this. Also, I was settling into the one bedroom next to the bathroom upstairs and moved the night stand. This was a horrible idea as there was cigar innards all over the floor as well as open condom packs and i think a used one as well. At this point I was a bit upset but let the owner know again as whomever is in charge of cleaning was obviously not doing their job. Some of my other criticisms are that what little curtains there were, did not provide any kind of privacy as well as the patio area was in horrible shape. Most of the string lighting was out and the chairs were broken. Overall, it kind of looked like the picture, if the pictures were 5 years old and nobody had taken care of the patio since then. I really do not like to leave bad reviews (I used to work in the hotel industry for 16 years) however I think it needs to be out there so the owner can officially address the things that need to be addressed. Otherwise, the location is perfect as you are minutes away from everything.

Cute house
The carriage house was super cute and clean. We had an ok time parking our midsize SUV in the garage and was glad to have that option. We did encounter a few problems. Starting in the first floor bathroom. The toilet seat was broken, the tub leaked and we didn’t have any hand towels. We were also a little nervous of the overloaded electrical outlet in that bedroom and didn’t want to add anything to it. The second floor bathroom needs curtains for privacy. Twin bed room had a stained comforter and could’ve used a few extra pillows. Kitchen…. Could use curtains there too and the faucet was loose. Other than that, it was exactly what we had in mind and loved the location - we were 10 minutes from anywhere we wanted to go.

Everything as expected
The property was as listed. The outdoor space is quite nice-it is shared with another unit but the individual areas are separated. I didn’t have any large problems during my stay. There wasn’t any laundry detergent available to complete the requested check out procedures and I didn’t get a response from the host when I asked about it, but as long as that doesn’t count against me I’m fine. It’s basic accommodation at a fair price for the neighborhood. Worked well for my family’s stay and no major complaints.

The house was clean. The one parking spot is to small for a pick up, that is if you can get the code for the garage door to work, so you have to park out on the street thats about 2 blocks away, then walk down a sketchy dark alley. There was a total of 5 bath towels in the place. No wash rags or hand towels except for the 1 in the kitchen. Where there was also no wash rag or sponge to do dishes. The TV didn't work. The downstairs bathtub had a bad leak. We left after the first night and checked into a hotel.

Beautiful location, with a lot of beautiful houses. Its was great and convenient to downtown and the University. Much better than a hotel, with a kitchen and washer and dryer and a great deal nightly! I would recommend. Down the alley is a quaint coffee shop called North Lime coffee!

Bourbon and Beyond stay
We stayed with another couple for the Bourbon and Beyond Music Festival. The place was great. It was easy check in and check out. Kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed. I was on crutches so having a bedroom on the ground floor was fantastic. The place is clean and very quaint. Other reviews talked about not feeling safe but we never felt unsafe. We loved sitting in the backyard with the propane fire pit! Easy drive to the venue and to downtown. This is a little gem.Thank you!!!

Great Spot - Great Neighborhood
We stayed in late June on our trip to the area for sightseeing and Bourbon tasting. The location was convenient to everything we wanted to do. We walked to Old Louisville Tavern for dinner one evening and enjoyed looking at all the old homes and the beautiful gardens. We were wishing we had found a walking tour of Old Louisville, so we could learn more about the area. We parked on the street, as the garage seemed a bit small for our vehicle. Breakfast in the garden was a special treat - no bugs. The only downside was for the couple who stayed upstairs. This property is in the airport landing area and they heard planes coming and going. The couple downstairs didn't hear any plane noise.

Some good, some not so good
The day we arrived we informed the host of the following. The ceiling lights in both of upstairs bedrooms do not work. The fire pit propane tank is empty. We were unable to open or close garage door with keypad. dryer was full of towels which we emptied and folder. We cannot find the sound machines in either of the bedrooms with queen beds. The host never responded to us. In addition, we washed the bath mats when we got there, since they were very dirty. One of the upstairs beds had only the bottom sheet. Otherwise, the stay was ok.

Didn’t feel safe here
The actual place was clean and neat. But the location did not feel safe at all with bars on the windows downstairs. Shady people walking the streets. There were no wash cloths for bathing, light didn’t work in some of the rooms, and the batteries were dead in the tv remote. I tried emailing the owner and there was no response back. We ended up leaving and having to stay somewhere else. I messaged the owner to tell him and he never did respond. Very disappointing!

Great location to explore Old Louisville
Property was within walking distance to old louisville, the university and other locations. Clean and comfortable. Nice backyard with firepit and plenty of seating. Well-stocked kitchen. We used the garage for our relatively small car - a large vehicle might not fit. Owner was easy to work with and replied quickly.

Great, older neighborhood
The neighborhood was a gem. The backyard sitting area was the main reason for the rental. It was great. Unit was older and serviceable. The downside was the location under the airport landing pattern. Be prepared for noise at all hours.

Interesting Old Louisville area
This is a carriage house about 100 years old. The neighborhood is so interesting! If you have never been to historic L’ville, there is such interesting architecture of times past. The carriage house is not fancy, but it served our needs for an economical meeting place.
