The owners were inflexible with the check in time, even though there were no occupants. There had not been any occupants since September 2020. We arrived on Thursday evening and found areas of the kitchen floor and carpeting to be unclean, laden with dirt. One of the bedroom carpets was damp. Since the owner’s policy was to provide 24-hour notice of any issues, we notified the owners by text message. On Friday morning, the owners came to the house and acknowledged the dirt and credited us for the cleaning fee.
Friday night, we noticed that the kitchen sink, refrigerator, counter areas were infested with ants. We notified the owners of the ant infestation. The owners came to inspect the ants on Saturday. Instead of taking care of the ant infestation, the owners accused us of bringing in the ants because we have open food, which is a ridiculous accusation. The ants were at the house prior to our residency. The only items consumed at the house was coffee, and a packaged sandwich. We did not cook and did not leave any food on the counter. The owners stated that there have never been any ant issues. They also told us that there is nothing that can be done with the infestation, and that if we were not happy, we should leave.
The owners were rude, accusatory and aggressive. Instead of attempting to remove the ants and determining the source of the infestation, they did nothing. They said that ants are a common problem on the Cape, and that we should just close our food containers.
Needless to say, we were forced to find another place.
