While right in the city, the inn is a very peaceful retreat. The hotel backs onto a river and has a rock garden as its centerpiece. The Japanese style rooms are the way to go. The meals have been excellent - just so much food.
Minamikan is a first rate ryokan with a beautiful Japanese garden. Meals were EXCELLENT, both dinners and breakfasts. My husband, who has difficulty sitting on tatamis, appreciated eating in its restaurant at tables with chairs, rather than in our room. Its staff were very efficient and cordial. It is well located in Matsue and everything was in a walking distance, to the Matue castle, and to great spots to watch its famous sunset over the lake Shinji-ko. We could see from our room fishermen fishing tiny clams called "shijimi" on the lake. We loved everything and would like to recommend Minamikan to anybody who appreciates great Japanese food and serene atmosphere.
