New for 2024
Molitg-les-bains is a beautiful thermal village in the mountains with it's own thermal hotel. It's in the heart of Catalan country so a mixture of French & Spanish culture. The cottage is spacious and a real home from home. As you walk in you have the traditional cottage feel and you will see that the original bread oven has been retained. Here you have a kitchen/dining which leads to a twin bedroom and ensuite bathroom (with washing machine).
Take the stairs to the 2nd floor and you will enter the lounge/diner with a cosy woodburner. The dining area has views over the village square where village events take place. If you are lucky you could coincide your trip with one of these events and have an evening of mussels or paella with the locals and a little bit of music. The lounge leads to double bedroom and a bathroom. There is plenty of information and guide books in the lounge to hep you decide how you would like to spend your holiday.
Wait for it there is still another floor. The top floor is very spacious and a perfect area to relax, spend quality time with each other or even do a bit of yoga. It's what I call my chill space. Here there is another double bed and the room can be separated with a curtain is you have an overspill of guests or perhaps your kids like mine don't want to share a room! There is also a TV with access to various channels and a number of games to play. This floor leads onto a very private south facing terrace, with bbq and table and chairs and beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.
Molitg has a small tourist information centre just opposite and being a thermal village has a couple of water fountains where you are able to fill up your water bottles and carafes. So take advantage of the spring water, it's beautiful. In fact there is a fountain just the opposite the house so very handy!
You don't need to go far for a walk, there are many paths from the village leading directly onto the mountains. The village also has a really cute park with a play area for the children, crazy/putting golf (you are able to hire the golf clubs for free at the tourist information centre), a basketball/tennis court and an outdoor gym complete with mountain views. In fact it's one of my favourite places in the village.
There are a million things to do in the Pyrénées-Orientales and I would suggest that you take a peek of the tourist information site https://www.tourisme-pyreneesorientales.com/
We are only about an hour away from the coast so it's easy to have beachdays and there are a fair few beaches to choose from, large sandy, small coves which are great for snorkelling all the way along to the Spanish border.
In the mountains you obviously have the walks but you also have various activities if you feel active like canyoning, via ferrata, accrobranche, mountain biking and if you are a cyclist plenty of cycle routes to follow Tour de France style. As well as the stuning hikes, there are waterfalls where you can bath, natural thermal springs to bath, you can choose from paid ones or wild springs which are my favourite. There are many historical places to visit, and beautiful villages. We are just 15 mins drive from Eus one of the prettiest villages in France and 20 mins from the historical village of Villefranche-de-Conflent.
The village itself is also home to the stunning Le Grand Hotel offering thermal and beauty treatments if you would like to pamper yourself.
Perpignan is only 45 mins and if you would like a day trip to Barcelona, the Spanish border is not far. It's a 2hr 45min drive to Barcelona or you could catch a train from Perpignon. There are so many things to explore and do here, the list goes on & on.......
