The staff were consistently rude to me, and when I asked for reasonable explanations around missing items (items went missing during laundry exchange, I was thereafter i 'disenfranchised' from any reasonable level of service. One constant issue with the property was the unidentified staff members asking for room keys, before returning to the front desk, this was very frustrating, as It makes no sense to pass your door keys to somebody you have no clarity if they work at the hotel or not. The area around the hotel, is incredible dangerous due to the presence of addicts injecting in an alleyway on the one side of the hotel, also I was disappointed that no resources/maps/or advice was available about Montevideo.
I loved the friendly people who worked at the front desk. It is an older building - kind of shabby chic - for travellers of a bygone era. Although old, they keep it as clean. The location is ideal and the price was perfect. And everyone at the front desk could not have been nicer. They helped me with an electrical converter for my stay, uber information, restaurant ideas...
This was the second time I stayed in this hotel; the building, specially the elevator, and the furniture make me feel as if I was living in another time. A very convenient location to attend plays at Teatro Solís.
I really loved this old hotel. Everything about it was quaint - from the little gated elevator to the old-style keys for every room and the shutters on the windows. The staff could not have been kinder and more cheerful. There were a lot of people working at this little hotel and they were all very nice. It's old, and kind of shabby chic, but it had a terrific personality and I felt safe and welcome as I came and went being a tourist for four days. The bedroom and bathroom were cleaned every day. It is right where the old city meets the central city, so it was ideally located to walk in either direction.
Beddings had stains on them; area is sketchy at night.

Great option for Montevideo centro and old town
Nice in the sense of faded grandeur and very well priced. Well placed but not actually in the old town which can be a bit risky at night. Staff were fantastic.
I love this very charming hotel located in the old city but close to downtown. I stay here every time I visit Montevideo if they have availability. The staff are wonderful and helpful, the rooms are nice and have the old world charm, the location is lovely, the coffee is excellent. It feels like home to me!
Staying at this hotel built in the 1890s was an interesting experience. However, the facilities were very outdated and there was no soundproofing at all. We couldn't sleep due to the noise inside building and outside.

Well located, about a 15-20 minute walk from the port. Room and bathroom were spacious. While breakfast was not offered, there was a selection of pastries and coffee made available to guests in the morning, which was a nice bonus. The staff were all very nice. The bathroom floor did seem to get quite wet after taking a shower, so that is just something to be aware of. Would stay here again.
I felt like I was staying in Paris. Yeah the building is old and the style reflects that, but that’s what I liked about it! The staff was soooooo great. The only thing I would say, is that the location is just okay. It’s nice that’s it’s central, but there are many neighbourhood outside of the old town that are worth exploring. If I had just stuck to the old town, I may have been less happy with the trip but thats but the hotels fault. Overall, for the price, this was an amazing stay.
