THE WORST VRBO EXPERIENCE
Upon checking in, there were all sorts of issues however it was too late to try to search for another rental of this size. The Owner told us that the basement was "off limits", however the washer and dryer which were listed as amenities, were located in the basement. He then informed us that one of the bathrooms which was shared by two bedrooms could not be used because it was having a plumbing issue. This meant two guests would have to gain access to other bedrooms in order to shower. This defeats the purpose of securing a property of this size. Unfortunately, this only gets worst. On the first day, we noticed that the A/C was turned off. It was being master controlled by the Owner which means our requests to turn it on were being sent to his phone and he was dying the request. I texted him and received no reply for two days. In 93 degree weather, this was a horrendous first few days. On day two a marshal rang the bell and attempted to serve us with court papers for the foreclosure of the property. The half rolls of toilet paper left in each bathroom were used and there were no other toilet paper in the home knowing we were renting the property for 8 days? Again, I texted the Owner and was told it was our responsibility to purchase toilet paper? This was ridiculous considering we spent over $8k on the rental to not be provided enough toilet paper to get through our stay. On day three, we realised we were only provided one towel and wash cloth per room and there weren't any spares in the whole house. I messaged him explaining that we'd need to do laundry to get us through the week with no spare linen or towels. No answer. Then the police showed up at the property explaining that they received a complaint, not because we did anything wrong, but apparently it is illegal for New Rochelle residents to rent their whole property out. They have strict by-laws against this, the Owner had already been notified about this. Thankfully, they were very kind to us, but none the less, the experience was extremely worrying. The next day we received another visit from a city official reiterating that we were not suppose to be there and explaining that the Owner was being sued multiple times by the city because of similar citations. This experience was extremely stressful and made us feel very unsecure and that we could be thrown out at any time due to the Owner’s legal issues. There was even more to write about. We did not enjoy this stay at all.
