The location is great, the staff very nice, but the hotel has seen better days. It's old and worn, but the rooms are large. We had a terrible mishap: the toilet overflowed in the middle of the night. They attended to it right away, but it took hours and it cost a night's sleep;and we were told this has happened before. We checked out the next day. I had asked for a late checkout to give me time to find another hotel, but they wanted to charge me for it, so I had to rush that process. In all, I was disappointed with the way it was handled. I understand the hotel will be renovated in the future. I would not try it until that's done.

I stayed here recently and have stayed here a number of times previously. Truth is I found the room tired looking and in need of some renovation or refreshing. Tired and bland and I was not impressed. The location is nice midtown spot easily walkable to things in the area and very safe. Not a bad place and very nice staff. Just think it’s time to spruce up the rooms and add just a touch more color.

Nice hotel in midtown Manhattan
This is our third time at the San Marcos. It's a very nice, quiet hotel. The rooms are relatively modern and spacious. It's a decent location, less than a block from the Lexington Avenue subway and walking distance to shopping and sites. The staff is friendly and helpful. The only irritating thing about our stay was the "resort fee," or whatever they call it. If it's not optional, it should be part of the room rate. And if it is optional, it should be made clear that it is.

The property was great. But what was not great was being told we would have to wait until exactly 3 pm to check in or pay for a rush to get our room ready. Of course, this is nonsense. Rooms are readied as people check out. We arrived at 9:30. We finally got a room at 1:30 after messaging the hotel via expedia.

This hotel is a good choice. It’s clean, well-kept, and the staff is terrific. The kitchenette in our room was great for prepping snacks for our kids. But the best part is the location. It’s right near everything, including a subway line, but not in the middle of the tourist hoards, so it feels much more relaxed. Also, it’s right up against a real neighborhood (Turtle Bay), so there are tons and tons of good and reasonably-priced local restaurants. If you just want to walk around with New Yorkers and take in the experience away from the madness of Times Square, this is a great home base.
