The host helped us greatly by recommending several restaurants, particularly two wonderful ones within walking distance. That gave us more of a chance to explore the neighborhood, which is chock-full of well-preserved mid-century modern homes.
The house itself has an enticing courtyard (complete with a pool, patio furniture, and fruit trees) that made me feel like I had arrived at a tropical resort. The house is arranged around it, and several French doors open onto this courtyard, which is another plus.
There were some minuses, including hard-to-find light switches, a step down into the bedroom that somehow escapes attention (lots of stubbed toes), the absence of a viable dresser in the main bedroom, a makeshift TV set up in there, and no counter in the bathroom I used, plus a dated kitchen. We made it all work, and we had a nice time. Again, the host was quite helpful in giving tips on light switches, etc.
