I read so many reviews (2000 ) after booking this property. I got so worried bc people were either it’s great or totally trashing it. Let me tell u, this is the most beautiful place we have been to, and we’ve been to other countries. The grounds are immaculate, the wildlife and greenery are beautiful, and the resort itself is beautiful! I have no idea what other people are complaining about. Our room was huge, very comfy bed, no trouble with hot water or towels as other people have said. Maid service came everyday as well as the guy who restocked our fridge daily. And if we asked for extra anything, it was given happily. One nite we even asked for more coffee packets as we were leaving the dinner buffet, and the coffee was already in our room by the time we walked back- about 5 minutes! The beach is awesome, very secluded and private but still plenty to do if u want adventure. The massage ladies on the beach- Maria & Evelyn, are 5 star masseurs! Not taking away from the resort spa, we didn’t use, but I’m sure these ladies are just as good and much cheaper. Larry the tour guy is great and very informative, however we used an outside source for a deep sea fishing trip. The pools are clean and we never had trouble getting a chair or pool towel. The bartenders are great-shoutout to Fernando! The best advice I can give is bring plenty of $1 bills. Tipping goes a long way!!! Shuttles run constantly but we actually preferred walking, the grounds are worth exploring.

Most of the staff was awesome.. Food became very predictable. Some of the units could really use a deep clean. We dont normally drink, but the bartenders are fantastic! BRING BUG SPRAY! Especially by the beach And avoid the massage by the beach. Use the spa, way more $ but better than a sketchy beach massage. Got one for the wife. She did Not recomend. Should have got the welcome spa package...

This property was a lot different than advertised. This location felt more like a nursing residence rather than a resort. There were only older residents staying at the location with no energy. There was no entertainment or activities. The food was horrible, it lacked taste. The “snack bar” had ants over the bread at all times. It seems like they served left overs from the inside buffet. We had to leave the resort to find great food. My wife and I watched the bartender add water to the alcohol bottles. Then served us shots from the same bottles moments later. The drinks were all watered down even the orange and pineapple juice! The resort has great views and maintained well on the outside. This property is very close to the airport! I would recommend redesigning the tile floors outside to take into account when it rains, it causes safety issues with slipping all around. Every staff member did not seem to like their job. The only engaged employee was the driver of the shuttle. Overall, I would not recommend this resort.

Even if you choose to use the safe Make sure you do not being any valuables like jewelry and keep cash on youvat all times. We had 2 friends that had items stolen cash and jewelry. The food choices are very limited and breakfast is the exact same choices daily. There are long gaps of time where no food is offered. Nice location but very hilly but transportation is offered. There are lots of excursions to choose from.

1. Transportation inside large property. EVERY vehicle poured out carbon monoxide. The open lobby was choked with it while awaiting vehicles were left running; walkways was choked with it when vehicles passed. 2. Housekeeping was understaffed. Check-in is after 4:00. Arrive early you’re stranded in carbon monoxide. 3. Check in is slow - long lines - as they explain all of the rules and restrictions. Meals all at the buffet, reservations at one of three restraints only once every 3 nights of stay. Included drinks at the bar with cheap liquor. Pay bar for upgrade package people only. 4. Bad buffet. Wait staff is excellent. friendly and efficient. But the selection is small, the food is lukewarm, and the quality, meh. 5. The rooms: The 1st room, nothing worked. Lights didn’t turn on, electric plugs didn’t work, the A/C was a mystery to control. The shower head flopped down and faced the wall, no way to prop it. We requested another room. The new room had no electric outlets for electronics, the television was so old the image was barely visible, some of the lights didn’t work, the coffee maker not only wasn’t plugged in, it could not be plugged in. No outlet. Yet it was still dirty. Sink drain missing cover and tarnished. 6. Calls were always answered “in five minutes” and they rarely came. The “mini bar” is ONLY two bottles of water and two sodas. Nothing else. If they show up. Not recommended. Buildings need maintenance. Everyone complained about the rooms.

The main areas of the resort are nice. Needs some upkeep but has nice grounds. The basic room, at least ours, wasnt good. Room 210. Had mold and smelled terrible. We were finally ugraded on night 4. We had early check in after 930 but didnt get our room until 4pm and it wasnt stocked. The food was the same every day for the most part. The a la cart grill was really good, the oriental not so much. Lots of iguanas and geckos! Howler monkeys as well! It was definitely peaceful as we went in off season.

Everyone was so friendly and had no issues at all. Unfortunately we had a lot of rain, but still enjoyed all of the wonderful people we met! Check in was very smooth and no issues with our room! Building #2. Went to coco beach to do some shopping and used uber. Was worth the trip. Food was okay, if you are not a picky eater. I do not eat meat, so it was a bit of an issue there. Otherwise no complaints!

This is our second time at this hotel and we love it here. While the view from our room was spectacular, we did have a broken fridge that didn’t ever get fixed and some water leaking from the A/C vent on the first night. Other than that — we would come back again, for sure. The food is always varied and excellent; the staff are friendly and helpful; and the property is quiet and enjoyable.

I don't know if I just drew the short straw, or everyone was dealing with the same issues, but I couldn't in good conscious recommend this hotel. The food is limited and rooms are outdated but the biggest issue I had was the electric in my room. The air conditioner would periodically just stop working and to get it working again we would have to call reception to have them send a maintenance worker to reset it. That would often take an hour or two to show up. Fine if it's in the day light hours but when it went off at 1am, you couldn't fall asleep. It was super irritating because the room temperature just got so hot and no employee on the property seemed to care. The property would loose power occasionally but that never lasted that long but you'd loose Internet and the AC would cut out. I think Costa Rica is a wonderful country and I would return but I would never come back to this resort.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Occidental Papagayo, an all-inclusive, adult-only resort, and I must say it was a truly beautiful experience. From the moment we arrived, the hotel's stunning architecture and lush surroundings took my breath away. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, setting a positive tone for our stay. One thing to note is that while the hospitality was excellent, the English proficiency among the staff was somewhat limited. I recommend bringing a translator app to facilitate communication, especially for those who may not speak Spanish. Our room was clean and comfortable, though we encountered an issue with the safe which wasn't functioning properly. It’s good to remember that the hotel is only responsible for items secured inside the safe, so be mindful of that. Regarding entertainment, the television stations were primarily in Spanish, which was not a major issue for us, but something to consider if you enjoy watching TV during your downtime. Dining was a highlight of the trip! The buffet restaurant was impressive, with a daily changing menu that kept our meals interesting and delicious. Just a heads up: there are two specialty restaurants that require reservations, and they tend to fill up quickly, so it’s best to plan ahead if you want to dine there. For activities, we enjoyed kayaking; however, it’s essential to have one experienced and one inexperienced person in each kayak for safety. The massage with Dana was exceptional.
