Unforgettable. The pictures really don’t do it justice.
Biggest pros: incredible seclusion in nature (waking up to the sound of birds chirping, the occasional woodpecker, and loons in the distance), the cabin (a humble but beautiful property constructed with wood from the lot itself), the peaceful view of and easy access to the water, washer/dryer (came in handy and is a load off the mind, no pun intended). Linens, pillowcases, and towels were included, which was wonderful. Ken, the caretaker, who happens to be the person who designed and built the place, was very welcoming and helpful. I enjoyed hearing the story behind the cabin and all its details. Also, there was a ton of camp wood available for us to use; we only needed to top up once during our one-week stay.
Biggest downside: there were a lot of bugs - ticks in particular were frequently found on our bodies (mostly dog ticks, so easy to spot, but we did find a few deer ticks). Totally fine as long as you do a thorough body check every night. Additionally, the cabin regulated heat very well simply by opening windows for a cross breeze, but on the hottest nights it got pretty warm regardless.
A couple of tips: the private driveway was long and a little rugged, so drive an appropriate vehicle. The power did go out for a time during a stormy day but it was resolved within a couple of hours.
Overall I loved the place and would definitely return another time. I doubt I could find something better in southern Maine of the same quality and value. Highly recommend.
