This self-contained one-bedroom garden apartment constructed in 2014 sits beneath a fully-restored 1914 Arts and Crafts bungalow in the heart of Portland's famed Alberta Arts District. It features a street-level private entrance (no stairs), all south-facing windows providing lots of natural light, 8' ceilings, a full kitchen, high-end finishes throughout, central air conditioning and hydronic radiant heating. Only partially below ground level, the unit is fully sound insulated providing restful quiet and privacy, comes equipped with a 4K projector and surround-sound home theatre system, fiber-optic Internet access with wi-fi, and a spa-inspired bathroom shower with thermostatic controls. Only two blocks away from Alberta Street and the popular Salt and Straw ice cream shop, food carts, restaurants, bars, microbreweries, and more.

There is abundant free street parking throughout the neighborhood.

We stayed a month which is unusual, but this little apartment had everything. There were little details that are really nice: night stand on both sides of the bed (both had 3 different device chargers), the fan light in the bathroom stayed on all the time (I always leave a light on, it makes me feel safe and I can get up during the night w/o waking my partner), there was good coffee beans and grinder, microwave, enough pots and pans, and dishes to make meals, a dishwasher, all soaps (dish soap, dishwasher, hand, body wash and shampoo, and makeup remover towels), the bed and pillows were very comfortable, nice towels and bedding. We were comfortable there for a long stay. Great location also. Two blocks from Alberta with cute shops and plenty of food options.

My wife and I stayed here for a few days. The place was very clean, and it had every comfort. Very walkable neighborhood, with shops and restaurants within just a couple of blocks. Plenty of parking. Would definitely stay here again.

Business bookended with vacation
My husband & I bookended a work trip with time to explore Portland & the surrounding area. This flat was the ideal spot to come home to each night. 10/10 recommend. Clean, quiet, cozy well-appointed. Everything in town was a 5-minute walk (Alberta St) or a 15 minute drive (Rose Gardens, Tusk Restaurant, Salt & Straw on the NW side). Everything out of town was a 90-minute drive (Mt. Hood, the coast, Mirror Lake). Plenty of pots and pans to cook with, excellent coffee for the morning, the bed was comfortable, the closet had ample storage for our clothes. I think the only thing I would suggest is 4 outlets next to the bed, so people can plug in their phones at night. Newer phones can't use the convenient USB ports that are provided in the outlets that are there. Hosts really have tried to think of just about everything! We would jump at the chance to stay here again. Thanks so much for letting stay this first time! :-)

When David built this basement apartment, he did not spare expense. The design and the quality of materials, fixtures and appliances is top notch. Not to mention the top of the line Sony projector, movie screen and surround sound. It feels like you are in a theater. Of course now we are spoiled at home with our puny big screen LOL. We will definitely stay there again.

Simply the best!
A beauutiful and fully equipped place, located in a great neighborhood. The hosts went well out of their way to meet my needs as a last minute guest. Every detail of decor was exceptional. Clean as could be, and very comfortable. Luxerious bedding and linens were the cherry on top.

Our hosts were tremendous the entire stay. They were very accommodating upon check in and out, had beverages in the fridge, and were super responsive throughout the stay. I doubt this place will be available all the time with the location, great customer service, and cleanliness of the space, but next time we travel back to Portland, we will certainly look to stay here again.

Sweet place in an awesome neighborhood
This is a beautiful little craftsman basement unit located in the Alberta arts district. It’s comfortable, spacious, and easily accessible. Parking on the street was not too difficult. The bed is very comfortable and the couch pulls out into a small bed also. The entertainment system was great With access to all the major streaming services. The refrigerator was well stocked, and I’ve never seen a rental kitchen as well outfitted as this one. Every appliance and utensil you could ask for was there. They had a nice selection of bottled and canned beverages, coffee, and tea, even microwave popcorn was available. Check in and check out instructions were clear and simple. we didn’t have to go crazy cleaning the place before we checked out. They have an excellent cleaning service. We were able to check in a little early even. David is an excellent host. He even tried to work with Vrbo about a billing issue I had with the company. David was very helpful in explaining the situation. I will definitely be considering this craftsman on my next trip to Portland. 10/10.

Great stay!
We live in the neighborhood but needed to be out of our house for several days due to an interior project. This comfortable apartment was a great stay for our purposes, and as a frequent VRBO renter during our domestic and international travels, we also highly recommend it for visitors. Appreciated the quality of craftsmanship (wood throughout, bathroom), full kitchen plus proximity to Alberta Street restaurants and take-out, amenities (cold sparkling waters, shower products), attention to environmentally sustainable practices, and excellent communication and help from David, our host. You, too, can have a great stay here!
