The hotel is great! We were hoping to get a room like one in the pictures that had a theme or had a local artist’s touch, but that’s ok. Our room was very clean and comfortable (super comfy beds) with lots of eco-friendly features. The roof area is great, as is the cafe downstairs and the photo booth. The neighborhood surrounding the hotel is going to make some people pretty uncomfortable, but I never felt unsafe. The hotel seemed to do a great job at buzzing guests in if they didn’t have their keys immediately accessible, and making sure non-guests stayed outside. It’s also great they have dormitory style rooms available! I will absolutely be back!
Tidy hotel which is totally recommended if you want walking distance access to night life, reasonable 0.5-mile walking distance access to Union Station (Amtrak) and are OK with being around a significant number of unhoused people on streets. On-site cafe (8 a.m. - 10 p.m.) is great and uses real food ingredients so do not expect rapid food. Good atmosphere.
Staff super friendly, and hotel is eco-conscious and has set of solar panels.
Across the road from Darcelle XV (drag show bar) and CC Slaughter (gay bar). Be aware people outside are noisy. Close distance to dance clubs, bars and restaurants all within walking distance. Buses have stops within a couple blocks of hotel in Chinatown area.
I was very happy with my stay here! I stayed in the bunk room for 3 nights and was impressed with how clean and nice everything was. I never had to wait for a bathroom and most of the other bunkers are all respectful. Everyone followed the bunk rules and the staff was very helpful :)
The staff were great. I love the fact that there is a coffee/ bar downstairs with a gorgeous rooftop deck! For security the doors are locked in the evening with 24-hour service which is awesome.
The staff was amazing and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was great. While there are unhoused people in this area of town, it is no more than expected for the downtown area of a major city. The hotel fires a great job securing the building. The hotel is located in an extremely walkable area of Portland. The only draw back is the room temperature is controlled by the front desk , and it seems the entire floor gets the same temperature but the front desk willingly provides additional fans, heaters, blankets-whatever is needed to make the room comfortable. Will definitely stay again!
The Society Hotel will probably be the place I stay anytime I'm in town and not staying with family. Even though there is a bit of homelessness nearby, I didn't feel intimidated and it was countered by all the fun that's offered. There is plenty of character in the neighborhood and the hotel the staff were full of charm and great service.
We had a 3 night stay at the Society, bang for your buck I would say. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms are not so big but big enough. The floors have carpet so if you are allergic keep in mind since you can’t open the windows. The coffee shop at the reception floor has delicious coffees, food and some alcoholic beverages too.
