What a beautifully restored and convenient hotel to stay at, we crossed the street from the train station and they had a lift. We had a delicious dinner at the captain’s table. Great selection of wines.

This hotel is superbly located for a visit to the Naval Yard where the HMS Victory and Mary Rose are located. Further it is literally across the street from the Portsmouth Harbor train station and the Gunwharf Quay shopping center. Apart from the hotel’s location, there are some other positives. The included breakfast is good, and the hotel is clean, even though it is much shabbier than it appears in photographs. WIFI reception is spotty and often non-existent; we did not accept the excuse that the building was old. There was an insufficiency of electrical outlets in our room, along with simple items such as shelves or places to hang things in the room or bathroom. Unless you require the use of a handicap accessible bathroom, do not accept one. The sink is so low as to be almost unusable; it was, in general, unusably laid out.

Nice, older hotel with really large and clean bathroom. No complaints about the room itself. Hotel staff was friendly, but were inflexible with the check in time of 3:00 pm. We traveled all day to get there and arrived at 2:15. We were told to come back 45 minutes later, even though our room was ready.

Suited our needs perfectly.
We stayed for three nights while visiting the Isle of Wight and the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. The hotel is ideally located for both of these, and only five minutes from the railway station. The room was quite spacious and clean. The front desk service was reasonably friendly and the included breakfast was very nice. Service in the bar was a little slow sometimes, as staff were off on other duties. We ate in the restaurant on one occasion and the food was delicious. There are Japanese options on the menu as well as the usual English fare, which gives more variety. Overall the hotel suited our neede perfectly.

Fabric needs updating but the whole experience was very good. The staff were really friendly and helpful, sushi menu excellent and the sights we were there to see were just outside. The available shopping, bars and restaurants were excellent. We will be going back. Thank you.

Old and cosy hotel in Portsmouth
The hotel old and cosy, but also warn out. The rooms are ok, beds fine, bathroom good. First night the cleaning was terrible, example cup was clean but undercup was not. Doesn't make sense to me. When checked out I couldn't get a receipt even though in the reservation it is stated that the hotel will provide the receipt. I hope they will send me one. Breakfast I tried once. Full English.... Ok had it differently else where. Overall a stay with downs and a few up's.

Lovely room, nice to have a view of the port & Spinnaker Tower but the stay was made by the friendliness of the staff who were informative and helpful. Would happily stay here again on future visits to Portsmouth.

We had a great couple of nights in Portsmouth. We chose the Keppel due to its location. We were going to spend most of our time in the Naval Dockyards which was a 5 minute walk. I can comment on lunch or dinner but breakfast was great, one of the best English breakfasts I've had in a hotel for a long time cooked to order. When we come back to Portsmouth the we will hope to stay at the Keppel
