Friendly staff but credit card unfairly charged
Friendly staff At check-out didn't want to process bill and said they would send it via email or mail. Two days later there was an additional charge on the credit card for no reason.

Good location but disappointing facilities
We were surprised with a service charge when we arrived, we thought the Internet price included all charges. We expected a more spacious room for the price - while it was clean, the room was cramped and dark. Staff service so-so. The saving grace was the breakfast room, up on the terrace in a garden setting, with a hot tub, and a view; breakfast offerings were ok. This is a small, older hotel that has tried to upgrade it's look through faux pas crystal effects and dark large furniture, creating an ornate, heavy, forbidding atmosphere. While the location was good - ie, close to both Copacabana and Ipanema beaches - we thought the price too high for the value we were getting. We decided to move to another hotel in the same vicinity, right on the beach, modern, light, staff professional, more expensive, but better value for the money.

I don't recommend!!
During the check in we had problems because they said that expedia didn't have sent the full dairy payment. I try to show the confirmation from expedia, where it was said that the amount due to the hotel was zero, but it was lost of time and money. So I should pay more to stay there, because all the others hotels in the city was full. Now I will wait my CC bill to confirm that I had already paid the full diary. We traveled with Expedia all around the world and it was the first time we had problems and for sure it was not Expedia mistake. So I can't recommend this hotel.

A convientent safe and central spot for buses and for a remarkably short walk to the beach make up for overpriced stay. Staff very good.

Listen to the reviews! Terrible hotel, rude staff!
Usually don't leave reviews but compelled to do so because of the my terrible experience at this hotel! Rooms are small as expected, and beds are uncomfortable but that's not worth complaining about. It's the RUDE staff that seriously merit mention. Couldn't care less about "customer service". I had booked the room a month ahead for world cup then got an email a couple of days before while traveling saying they don't "accept AMEX" over the internet and that they will cancel my room if I don't respond in 12 hours! Fortunately (or actually unfortunately) I saw the email in the middle of my travels and was able to give them a visa card to use. Wish I would've just cancelled. ALSO- they charge EXTRA "service" fee on top of what's published on hotels.com so beware. Overall, really rude staff, small and uncomfortable rooms, noisy noisy noisy as on a main street with police officers blowing their whistles directing traffic. Would NOT RECOMMEND unless you have no other option.

Nice hotel, bad management.
The hotel is nice and the complimentary breakfast is amazing!! The internet was not working on our floor when we checked in late at night and when I brought it to the attention of the front desk, the manager came out and started yelling at us telling us that it was our devise that wasn't working properly. I had him come up to our floor and proved to him that it wasn't working. He still was very cross with us saying, "What do you want me to do? You can leave if you want!!" 1/2 hour later, the hotel staff reset the internet and it worked perfectly. We left early because of the manager and his poor attitude.

Good location bit run down
The hotel is nice enough and in a great location 5-10 mins walk from both ipanema and copacobana. Across the road is also a fantastic burger bar. The rooms are nice and good value but the facilities are run down. The hot tub has not been working for a long time (has green water in it) and the gym is a weights machine and a treadmill that keeps turning off. There is a cycle machine that cannot be used as water is leaking from the roof on to the power point. It is a bit cheaper than other hotels so the prices is about right for the standard it is in. All the staff were wonderful except for the woman on reception in the morning who was pretty snappy and rude. Has a great shower with fantastic pressure

Fantastic location
We have been to Rio many times before and really enjoy the neighborhoods in the Zona Sul - both Ipanema and Copacabana. This hotel couldn't have been better located. We were able to access either beach/neighborhood by walking just a couple of minutes. The rooms are slightly small, but when I'm in Rio, I'm not expecting to spend much time in the room. The bathroom was clean, as was the rest of the room. We either woke up too late or had other plans for breakfast, so I can't comment on that. I would absolutely recommend this place for people who are focused on exploring Rio/Zona Sul and not looking to have the hotel be the most interesting thing about their visit.

excellent staff - helpful & english-speaking
The room was a little shabby, but the hotel staff more than made up for it. They helped arrange tours, plan outings, and helped work out my lost luggage with the airport. Their English was certainly better than my Portuguese and they put up with my communication struggles.

Cheap n Cheerful n Great Location
Some reviews for this place are pretty bad - some things probably merited, some not. But let's be honest...the reason you're reading this review is because you're looking for pleasant / affordable accomodation in expensive Rio...and this hotel offers that in droves. It is cheap by Rio standards, the rooms are a decent size (the X01s), the breakfast is generous and the location is excellent. Add to that they are currently renovating the rooms on all 6 floors which should make for a big aesthetic improvement. It ain't the Ritz, but it's a decent budget find.
