A Rather Rustic Stay
Beautiful approach to an enchanting castle from the outside and the common spaces. Rooms are worn - and a little hodge podge - bed is much too old - soft and dipped in the middle from age/use sound isolation surprisingly terrible for an old stone building - can hear anyone in the hallway bathtub doesn’t drain, no ability to shower standing without flooding the place friendly staff but can’t help but feel like they are a bit deer in headlights ( perhaps like the ones in the park that are camping out at the too far away pool that’s seemingly abandoned in the park corner of the park) Crazy that you pay for parking your own car in a fenced in area in the park Ordered a drink to have in the lovely gallery facing the courtyard pre dinner and 25 minutes later when we still had not received our pre dinner glass of wine - They seemed surprised we had not received our wine but were not exactly apologetic Dinner had some surprisingly delightful moments - as I must admit we were not expecting much when we sat down. The staff were lovely but way under staffed - perhaps bc of this pandemic related staffing shortage - the ladies were clearly hustling - but because they did not have the quantity of staff necessary they could not possibly be expected to provide the level of attentive service one would expect from a Relais et Chateau dining experience. Courses arriving before they had a chance to clear the previous one and set cutlery, no one ever re poured our wine

This Relais and Chateau property is my favourite in France. Beautiful rooms, Fabulous service from smiling helpful staff. Brilliant restaurant with top class food and a great selection of well-priced wines, as one might expect from an establishment just a few kilometres from the Wine University. The original architecture of this castle makes it a magical place. I will return again and again.

absolutely stunning place!
An absolutely stunning chateau. We stopped for one night on our way to the South of France and just loved it. Unbelievable views from the top of a hill, fabulous food and the most beautiful fairy-tale chateau.

Lived like Royalty
The junior suit room we stayed was amazing! It felt like we really lived as royalty in the castle. The staff was very helpful and wonderful. We had a fun time hiking with kids to look for deer in the park/woods by the hotel. The swimming pool area was okay, but probably could have been decorated nicer to feel more welcoming.

Beauty, serenity and elegance- la vie au Chateau
We stayed at the Chateau De Rochegude in mid-July to attend world class performances at the breathtaking Roman Theatre in near-by Orange. Its opulent facade stands perched atop a hill in a small village, offering 360-degree views of surrounding vineyards and Provençal scenery, both breathtaking and calming. This serenity, coupled with elegance and beauty, permeates every detail of the castle’s architecture and the guests’ stay there. Our lovely receptionist promptly took us for a quick tour of the hotel-part of the Chateau and filled us in on its history. The common-area drawing rooms are decorated with historical detail, yet invite the guest to lounge comfortably, instead of roping off its treasures. Everything inside the individually and artfully decorated rooms, named after famous painters, is in impeccable taste, the room spacious and bright. I particularly appreciated the generous bathroom with a view and the outstanding beauty products provided. A walk through the hallways down to the hotel park uncovered more incredible antiques, everywhere you look. The large, modern swimming pool is located in the middle of a beautiful park and a very welcome oasis of calm. We had our breakfast coffee served outside in the courtyard the next morning by the friendly staff, who treated us without a hint of arrogance one might fear comes with the well deserved four-star Relais & Chateau label. La vie au chateau is, like la vie en rose, sweet and alas, too short. We'll be back!

A Step Into Another Century
This was our second stay at the chateau. The service has always been professional and attentive. Our room was fairly ordinary for an ancient chateau in that it felt like most hotel rooms in France, but I guess that's to be expected when modern bathrooms, tvs, etc. need to be installed in old buildings. The dining room is airy and open to the lovely gardens. Our meal was very good but not excellent. There is a swimming pool located across the park from the hotel but we din't use it since even though it was August the thermometer said 11° (52° fahrenheit). The public rooms give the appearance of still being from another century with gorgeous antique furniture, statues and musical instruments. There are wonderful panels in each room explaining the history including the use of one room for papal judiciary conferences. We also had a very good breakfast with croissants, breads, jams, several cheeses, sliced ham and proscuitto, fromage fräiche, yogurt, fruit cocktail and various fresh squeezed juices in addition to coffee and various teas.

Rochegude - Like a Fairy Tale
It doesn't come cheap (fortunately not, I am inclined to say in this case) but this is a wonderful place to stay, with excellent service and a decor you wish you had at home. A castle with history, carefully restored and made into an elegant and comfortable home away from home. Restaurant with great menus, which you will need as the village doesn't offer much as an alternative. Recommended to all romantics.
