When we arrived the rude receptionist did not even look up at me, just barked "ID". I gave him my driver's license and he said "you're local, you have to give me $200 in cash advance." I was not local, I live in Lexington, and the hotel is in Salisbury. He just pointed to a sign that said locals have to pay a $200 in cash only. My daughter and I have traveled extensively and never heard of such a thing; what an outrageous policy. Our entire stay would have only been $180. He wouldn't take my card for the deposit and who walks around with that much cash on them. We came to the hotel beccause I was having surgery the next day and it was close to the hospital. He wouldn't budge so we told him to cancel and we left. This caused a great deal of anxiety and trouble for us of course, and on the eve of surgery! The place looked sketchy, extremely noisy so perhaps we dodged a bullet but it was so outrageous. My daugher asked him, if you don't want locals, does that mean you think everyone here is a crook? He just stared at her and made us sign a cancellation letter and we left. Nowhere on the expedia site nor the hotel site was this policy posted, or we wouldn't have gone there. Don't support this business with their outrageous policy.
