Plan the perfect family reunion or getaway in this one-of-a-kind 2,800 sq ft. historic home. Built in 1927 by the famous Scripps family in the unique "storybook" style; the home has been remodeled with the latest features to enhance its old world charm. This large house features an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area, 5 separate bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and loads of outdoor patio space, providing the ideal mix for both quiet relaxing and fun social time. During the summer season, rentals run from Saturday to Saturday.
Located in the heart of Pacific Beach (PB) San Diego's premier beach destination, the location can't be beat. Pack your wagon with surf and sand toys and head west for 2 blocks to the Pacific Ocean. Or, switch gears and head south 2 blocks to Mission Bay for a leisurely bike ride or to read a book on the sand. Forget something at the store? Ralph's supermarket is a 5 min. walk away, as are a wide variety of restaurants and shops for every taste.

The owner lives on-site in an adjacent apartment. We only rent to responsible groups, primarily families. This is not a "party house".

Ryan was a wonderful host—very prompt with responses and helpful with questions. The home has old storybook charm, which didn't impact the stay but rather enhanced the experience. The location, with its proximity to the beach, shops, restaurants, and grocery store, was perfect and easily walkable. The rooftop hot tub provided a great area to relax and watch the sunset. The location was perfect for easily visiting areas in and around San Diego.

Fantastic!
Our family celebrated my husband's 90th birthday at the Storybook Beach House and it could not have been more perfect. The house was fabulous, fun and in the perfect location for all of us to walk to the beach, grocery store and wonderful restaurants. The owner of the house was extremely accommodating, helpful, and thoughtful. The house was charming, intriguing and very well supplied with everything we needed. All-in-all the perfect house for us. Great place for fiftieth wedding anniversary celebration
This was a great place to bring together our children, their partners and our grandchild for a week. There was lots of room for everyone to find their own space or to gather for meals, conversation or a pool game. The small swimming pool was a big hit with the grandkids. There were many retail and grocery stores nearby as well as restaurants, bars and ice cream stores. And the beach was just a short walk with amazing sunsets that the whole family enjoyed. Highly recommended.

The perfect storybook cast for a multi generation vacation
This is the perfect place to stay with grandparents, children and grandchildren. Walkability to the beach, grocery and restaurants was fantastic. The young adults loved the hot tub and pool table and our granddaughter loved the pool. Ryan is an exceptional host and answered all of our questions and helped us feel comfortable and at home. ( Including a new puzzle when we told him how we love to do puzzles on vacation!) We wanted to comment on the heat as someone had mentioned it in a previous review. It was in the low 60s during the day and low 50s at night and the heater in the front room sufficiently heated the whole house and there were tons of extra blankets. It was very comfortable and the five bedrooms allowed us to spread out and be together but still have space. We had a fabulous two week holiday that was simply magical.

Family birthday celebration
Host very responsive, friendly. Location perfect. Easy walk to beach, boardwalk, stores, restaurants. House well furnished. Kitchen had everything. Nice patio, bikes, sand chairs. We were there early November and although the house said it was heated, only the first floor living room had heat. The bedrooms were cold. No extra blankets and we were cold.

Family reconnect
We had a wonderful stress free long weekend recharge. Two families with plenty of room. We were able to cook, grill, relax and chill. Kitchen was great. Billiards table and big dining room table made it easy for us to gather and visit and eat. Loved the sunsets from the hot tub. Appreciated the ready to use wagons, bikes, beach towels and sand shovels. Backyard pool was also a great place to soak and visit. Best thing was location in a quiet beautiful old neighborhood but only two blocks from the beach and three blocks from the bay. Host was very helpful when needed.

The home was as nice as advertised. We had 10 people (6 adults and 4 small children) and it accommodated us very well. The location was great -- short walk to either Mission beach or the bay. The pool, although small, was a great plus for the children. The kitchen was well equipped. The one minor issue was the flies. There were a lot of flies outside and there is probably not a lot that can be done about that. However, a fair number made their way inside, and created a nuisance. Maybe some kind of fly traps inside would help.

Charming home. Close to everything you'd want to see in San Diego, but you might not want to leave. Pool table on the first floor, hot tub on the roof where you can watch the Seaworld fireworks each night, small swimming pool in the back. There's plenty of room - we had 8 people. A place to park your car. Short walk to the beach and restaurants. And the owner is great. What more could you want?

50th Birthday Celebration
We had a group of 10 adults celebrating a 50th birthday. We absolutely LOVED this house and the location can NOT be beat. We walked to the grocery store multiple times. So convenient. There are tons of restaurants and bars literally 5 minutes away on foot, not to mention the beach. Ryan was an awesome host. You didn't know he was there but if you needed something, he appeared in minutes. He even shipped some items we left behind and wouldn't let me pay for it. I can't say enough good things about this rental.

Lovely Vacation in San Diego
This home was such a fun piece of history, we loved the house! Not only was it in the perfect location for being able to walk and bike to so many things, the interior decoration was so fun to explore, it felt like a movie set home, which made it feel special! The pool was actually deeper than we thought which was a great perk. We paid to have the pool heated and used the hot tub on the roof, which was awesome. We used the bikes provided by the house and rented a few more for the kids, we did need to get the tires filled on the provided bikes, but that was easy. We loved riding down the beach as well as the bay to get meals and ice cream. The house felt like such an easy access point for everywhere we wanted to go, like La Jolla, Balboa Park and even Legoland and Temecula. As for the house itself, the kitchen was very well stocked, the beds were so comfortable and the extra things that were provided like beach wagons, bikes, beach toys, tons of towels, etc was such a big help to us as we flew across the country. We also felt that the rooms had enough window shade to make the rooms dark for sleeping, important for us on a different time zone! Ryan was easy to communicate with and he was so very prompt. I feel like the host communication can be glossed over but it really helps when the host has clear instructions and prompt responses to questions; and Ryan was great at all of that, clear communication to us as renters and prompt with any questions we had!

Ryan was a wonderful host. He was always responsive, patient and helpful. As the parents of the groom, we wanted a place to congregate. None of our family live in San Diego, so it became a place where we could all relax and catch up. It was a "home away from home". The challenge with finding a home to rent, was that we needed one with a bedroom that was on the main floor, near the kitchen. My in-laws find stairs challenging, so this just perfect! The kitchen was spacious, the outside area had plenty of room for all of us to relax. The kids enjoyed the heated pool and I enjoyed the rooftop jacuzzi. From the rooftop you could see the ocean, and the otherside, the bay. Thank you Ryan for sharing your beautiful, historic and 'full of personality' home with us. I hope we have another occasion to rent it in the future! All the best.

We came to SD for daughters college graduation. This home was PERFECT. Tremendous charm throughout the house. Outdoor space was amazing for entertaining. Parking was excellent (important for beach area properties). All the beds were very comfortable. Would absolutely stay here again.
