The Chancellor Hotel had charm and the staff were very nice. Cookies, coffee/tea available in the lobby. Popcorn was made each evening. Alicia in the lounge was such a treasure - she took time to visit with us and make us feel very welcome. The hotel is close to the BART (which we took from the airport), the LRT and the cable cars. Union square is a block away. The room was small, but that’s to be expected in an old hotel. Everything worked well in the room. The mattress was possibly nearing its last days (our only negative in our whole stay). Lots of pubs/restaurants/bars in the vicinity. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Loved the location and quiet elegance. Five pillows to choose from. Also coffee available all day plus the best chocolate chip cookies I have eaten. A straight shot to Bart on Powell. Will always stay here when town.

This is a simple property that is clean and safe. The staff is very friendly. There is no air conditioning, So if that is a must, this would not be a good place for you to stay. Otherwise, I enjoyed my very much. Friendly front staff and bartender. The area around is clean and safe.

Stayed at the tail end of summer 2024. Decent-sized room for a solo traveller (or with a partner). It's got a bar in the lobby and it sits right on the Powell cable car. There's a Walgreens about 50 steps away and few lovely little diners within close walking distance. My room faced the west side, and I couldn't really hear the noise of Union Sq, and so it is a reasonably quiet night's rest. Clean room, comfy linens, courteous and professional staff. Would stay again.

The hotel is an historical property that dates from another era. The rooms are small, there is no a/c but they tell you this up front in their description. They do have everything you expect in a modern hotel - safe, wifi, cable, etc). Everything from the room to the service was immaculate. I would update the beds. I'm 6' and had to climb up onto a rather uncomfortable mattress. Nevertheless, I would stay here again in a second.

An older property but you would never know it. This property is incredibly clean and up-to-date. The staff from the check in desk to housekeeping were amazing. I would stay at The Chancellor again and would encourage travelers to stay here when visiting San Francisco.

I first stayed in the Chancellor as a new graduate on a trip looking for a job, then returned two years later with my new wife on our honeymoon. We've been back a few times over the years and we loved it this year for our 42nd Anniversary. We'll be back again soon.

The best thing about this hotel is its location ... incredibly convenient. As well, the staff were very welcoming and helpful. An added bonus were the all day cookies and coffee ... nice touch! The only downside was the size of our room ... just a little too small for my liking.

This hotel is worn out , dated but the staff are very nice. An early check in request was fulfilled but the bath tub in the room had cracks and was chipped so that you could cut your skin which we only noticed in the evening. The hotel was fully booked so another room was not guaranteed until next day. The second room was a slight upgrade on a higher floor but the Wifi was non existent which made things very difficult. The hotel offered complimentary cookie, tea/coffee/water/fruit in the lobby. The location was great and made sightseeing using public transportation easy. I would not stay here again though.
