The Majestic is like staying at the Grand Budapest Hotel. Run by Nepalese and Indian employees/family. One of the few buildings that stood after the 1907 earthquake. Stepping into the hotel is like going back in time. The neighborhood is quiet, safe but still located near the action. We go every year. With a relatively low price their is no reason to go anywhere else.

It is an old building and the room in which I stayed smelled quite bad the whole stay. Smelled like old people. It was fairly clean, but the atmosphere was not what I and my girlfriend had expected. We would have much rather preferred to stay in any 3 star hotel for same money. If this had cost 100$ instead of 200$ per night, then it would have been ok experience, but for 200$ a night for three nights this was nowhere close to what we had expected. Location is good and staff is ok people, but the atmosphere and smell in the room almost ruined the whole trip. At first after seeing the hotel and the room we did consider for some time whether to just book a different place. The shower did not have good water pressure and the AC for the room is a portable one connected to the window which ruined the ambiance of the place quite a bit. TVs were so small we did not even bother turning any of them on. Sofa was as basic as it gets. King size bed was good looking and overall nice (apart from the smell that surrounded it). One of the water taps in the bathroom was missing a piece of art. Quite a few small things like that added uo as well. When we arrived, there was one small water bottle in the fridge which looked as if it was just thrown in there as if someone had been in a big hurry.

Very walkable location. Short walk to Japantown. Less than a mile to Theater District. Staff is friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed the nice full breakfast in their beautiful dining room. The amenities are updated, but it is still a very old building - claw foot tub, wall AC in rooms, old elevator, spotty water pressure for showers (when I was there - much better in the morning). Room and facilities are clean.

The hotel is old and a bit musty. I do love the over the top furnishings and decorative details but there were many small details that could be improved upon. The toilet didn’t flush well. The window covering lowering chains were all mostly broken, the tub rocked when you were in it.
