Rented this property for an out of state family vacation for us, and friends who live in CA. Owner had good communication in the days leading to our arrival, and provided a lengthy list of rules we had to follow.
When we got to the house, the entry code wouldn't work after several attempts. We tried contacting the owner through the VRBO app, but after 45 minutes without a response we called VRBO customer service. After a while on hold, they were able to provide us with the owners phone number and email address. However, even with that, we (and VRBO) were still unable to reach the owner. It was almost 3 hours before she responded, saying she was at the airport about to board a plane, and we must have entered the code wrong. Someone else then grabbed her phone and said they gave us an old code, had reset it for us, and to try again with a new code. They said if we continued to have problems to contact her business partner, whose information was provided only after the owner contacted us with the new code. They offered no apologies and no one reached out to ensure we made it inside.
The house was clean and had the basics, though it could use some minor repairs. Access to a washer and drier is a nice bonus. Overall, it's better than hotel rooms for hanging out with old friends.
Not having any access to the owner at check-in time was extremely frustrating as we were stranded for 3 hours around dinner time with young kids.
