McFarland's Cove is a community of families and extended families who have been summering in 'the cove' for generations. The NEST, as it is known, was built by a long time local family about 100 years ago.
It sits on a bluff and has views across John's Bay, the body of water that comes in from the Atlantic and, on the opposite side of the house it overlooks McFarland's Cove, a protected harbor, with a classic Maine 'Beach' - not like the Jersey Shore:).
Wildflowers, Loons in Fall, an Eagle nesting near by can be seen at days end flying overhead. Witch island is a kayak away (Kayak rental available at Pemaquid village). And sunsets. Magnificent sunsets, and the main deck with coffee is looking directly into fabulous sunrises.
South Bristol is a picturesque fishing village, boasts a draw bridge, a historical museum and Osher's Restaurant as well as the South Bristol Co op for fresh lobster caught same day (and clams too). They will cook them for you or you can try your hand at it.
The Nest is on a graded dirt road that the community loves just the way it is. Walking trails wander off the road. There are official trails that head into South Bristol by the main road, Route 129.
Damariscotta is a 25 minute ride back to town but two local stores can provide most of the provisions you might need although for a weeks stay we recommend a shop in town! There is a full grocery in Pemaquid also along with a fishing / hunting store. Oh art galleries and antique stores are along the way.
The kitchen in the NEST offers everything you need to put out a full meal. No TV. Yes Telephone. Internet yes - .
