Take a step back in time to the golden age of the Colorado frontier at this one-bedroom-plus-loft cabin in South Fork, a beautifully appointed escape that brings modern comfort to an incredibly atmospheric setting. Whether you're planning to hit the slopes at Wolf Creek Ski Area (22 miles southwest) or ride your ATVs directly from the house into Rio Grande National Forest, you'll be able to enjoy all that South Fork has to offer, all year long. The living space features natural wood, stone, and textiles inspired by the American west, as well as a fully appointed kitchen with a breakfast bar, a washer/dryer, high-speed WiFi, 55' Smart TV, and Direct TV with over 200 channels. There's even an expansive, fenced-in yard where your dogs can run around and stretch their legs. At night, you'll find a king-size bed in the one-bedroom, as well as a queen-size bed, a double bed, and a twin bed in the open loft.

Overall great place
The cabin was in a great location. The cleanliness overall was impeccable except for the urine stains on the carpet in the master bedroom. Would have been nice to be informed of no AC. That being said, everything else was great and would highly recommend!! All kitchen utensils were provided. Check in/out was a breeze.

My husband and son had stayed twice before so we knew it was great. The remodel even made it better. So nice and had everything we needed. Our dog loved spending time in the fenced backyard. Nice doggy door was a bonus! Really special place!

Cute cabin, but rules overload
Overall the cabin was very nice. The kitchen and living room and the overall look of the cabin was beautiful. But there were signs and rules posted everywhere. I understand the need for rules, but put it in a binder. The people that are going to follow the rules will read them in the binder. The folks that don’t follow rules aren’t going to follow the signs/rules anyway. The signs posted everywhere were annoying.

Absolutely will stay again!
Our 3rd time to stay at this house and we love it. Beautiful, quiet, relaxing and so close and convenient to Wolf Creek. Whether skiing, visiting the hot springs or hiking, this house is wonderful.

Great getaway
My husband and i loved our stay at Kit Carson cabin. The home is very nicely decorated and very comfortable. Our favorite parts of our stay were the front and back porches, great places to watch the amazing sunrises and sunsets. Parking is great and the neighborhood is very peaceful and quiet. We'll stay here again!

Amazing property
My wife and I work many hours every week and needed to get away and reset with our two children. Everything was beautiful and many memories were formed in these walls. We appreciate the beautiful slice of Colorado that we were allowed to be a part of.

Nice cabin - roomy - no help if you need it
We needed help from Vacasa but they took a full 2 days to get back to us - just auto-responses to the number they provided. Also don't count on having a working dishwasher as pictured in the listing. Looked like it hadn't worked in a while. Otherwise it was a comfortable place - we had stayed there when it was managed by a local company and it was great. Vacasa phones it in. If you are lucky.

Overall a very nice place
Very nice rental with the cabin look. Everything went smooth, except the pile of trash on the back porch from previous tenants. Upon contacting management to let them know, they just asked if I would get rid of it. I figure if your paying this kind of money to rent a place, you shouldn’t have to do the cleaning persons job. Not a huge deal though. Beds were comfortable, and had zero problems other than the trash.

Nice cabin but it is not 2 bedroom it is 1 bedroom with an open loft ( so not good for couples traveling together) The closet in bedroom was locked and drawers were full so had to put a few clothes in hall closet and live out of suitcase. No tv in bedroom ... 1 big tv in living area. There is forced heat but it's only warm while its blowing...they did not want you to use propane heater probably bc it cost more bc they have solar panels for electricity . If I am paying for a place I should be comfortable and it was hot or cold ...what's cheapest for home owner is not guest friendly. The cabin is surrounded by mobile homes and no trees flat land... we did enjoy seeing deer in the evening... it was close enough to ski Wolfcreek.

Absolutely lovely
The cabin was everything we hoped for. I am so glad we picked this location. Our daily trips to the Wolf Creek Ski area were easy and our stay was outstanding. Our only comment for future visitors is to be sure and bring bottled water to drink. The water had a bit of a smell and we were not comfortable ingesting it. Otherwise all was great!

Spacious Cabin Near South Fork
With a Master BR down and additional beds in the upstairs loft, this cabin is great for a group or family. The house was outfitted well with convenient and modern appliances. The long driveway worked well for us, as we traveled with an F250 and trailer. Access is easy to the grocery store and town.

Great place, dog paradise
We definitely enjoyed our stay. Everything was in good shape, well-equipped, the fireplace is awesome, and the area has a lot to offer. Our dog had a blast in the large fenced-in yard through the doggy door. Two warnings though: first, the water did have a noticable Sulfur-like smell, sometimes more sometimes less. We did drink it on the first day and didn't get sick (the taste was actually fine), but we bought bottled water for the remaining days. The second warning is that we had no idea what to do with our garbage after our 2 weeks stay. We tried to contact the host multiple times via Vrbo but didn't get an answer. There was no binder which would explain the garbage policy, so we ended up leaving all of it inside the house (there is a lot of wildlife - a deer family visited us every morning and evening, and you hear coyotes in the night - so we couldn't leave it outside). We did see a garbage truck one day, so the area seems to be serviced

Perfect ski base for party of 4!
My wife and 2 kids and I had a perfect trip to South Fork for 3 days of skiing. The cabin was perfect for us and our small dog. The kids loved their beds in the upstairs loft as well as playing in the snow in the huge fenced-in yard. The master bedroom was nice and comfortable and the cabin stayed as warm as we wanted. The beautiful drive to and from the mountain was enjoyable every day (about 25-30 mins). You won’t be disappointed with this place!

Back Again!
This was my families 2nd time back at this cabin, and we loved it just as much as the first time. They have made improvements to the front landscaping, fencing, front screen door, and many other we noticed. The owners and manager have really put a lot of time into making the property safe and friendly to pets. The backyard fence is in perfect condition and safe to leave the pets without worrying. They also have some pet supplies to help with the pets. The cabin had plenty of extra towels, sheets, pillows. They have a pretty big selection of books. They have extra box fans. Long story short the cabin is pretty well equipped. This cabin is on a quiet road, so there isn't hardly any traffic. There is plenty of parking for the families cars, and the truck and trailer full of ATVs. The cabin is literally surrounded by Rio Grande National Forest, you have endless places to ride between Southfork, Creede, Lake City. The property manager Diana is very nice and helps with everything. She remembered us from the year before, down to details I think a lot of people would have forgot. The owners have a great manager in her. We will be back!
