Perfect for stargazing!
We enjoyed our stay at Hummingbird Ranch. The place was super clean, comfortable, and very well decorated. Renee and Steve were easy to communicate with. The property is perfect for stargazers and/or astrophotographers. Think of it as your own private oasis in the desert, surrounded by mountains off in the distance. We were delighted with the clear skies and the resulting photos. There are numerous hiking trails and historical sights as close as a half hour drive. We can’t wait to return.

Perfect for getting to know Cochise County & Chiricahua's
We're avid hikers and the location of Hummingbird Ranch was ideal for driving to the Chiricahua National Monument, the Coronado National Forest and the Cochise Stronghold. We love the Sandcrane Reserve and Willcox, as well. Renee and Steve are generous hosts and their house and garden are great for relaxing after a day on the trail. Birds are abundant, as are their stock of books on the area and DVDs for evening viewing.

This roomy, clean, super quiet property was everything we were looking for as a base for our exploration of southeast Arizona. We did day trips to Chiricahua National Monument, Kartchner Caverns, Whitewater Draw (to see thousands of sandhill cranes) and more. Great location, super quiet and incredible night skies.

Quiet location with lots of birds
The directions to the house were spot on. Renee was welcoming and let us know the house was available early for us. While the house was comfortable, it was difficult to relax due to all the house dos and don'ts. (We didn't bother to use the TV or DVD player given the convoluted instructions.) The internet was more reliable than we'd expected. All the other VRBOs we've rented (in US and France) have been much less heavy handed with their house rules and treated us as grown-ups. Maybe the owners have had problems with renters in the past. The birds were wonderful to watch and the cacti amazing. The sky at night wasn't as dark as we'd expected though lots of stars were visible..

If you love remote this is for you
If you want an hour from civilization this is for you. For two gals over 70, looking for a small dirt road in the middle of nowhere in the dark was not what we expected, luckily, we had a good GPS system. The home is very clean and surprisingly well furnished...where we were we thought we'd be just grateful for indoor plumbing. The home was a pleasant surprise once we got past the gate and the key entry system. Lots of written directions throughout the home and a heater that was willing to work overtime. The view was less than expected…billed as: "Cochise's Hummingbird Ranch SPECTACULAR 360 MTN & Natl Parks" maybe we just didn't know where to look but we did not find much of a view. Wonderful birding couple made my stay worthwhile; gal pal was too far from civilization to be comfortable. Biggest disappointment..... no hummingbird feeders to fill after I brought nectar as directed in written communications.

Cozy and clean
The owner and hosts go out of their way to make this home clean with all of the conveniences you could ever need. We had some issues finding the location because VRBO sends you one address for the property and the owner sends you a different address . I would think having the addresses match be a simple fix for this . We would also recommend that the owner simplify the house rules list and just let guests know to be respectful and leave the kitchen and home just as clean as you find it. Yes we would stay again if ever in the area.

Weekend in Wilcox/HR
We had a wonderful stay at Hummingbird Ranch! Some friends and I were looking for a location near Wilcox for a short weekend. Hummingbird Ranch is about 30 minutes or so away from Wilcox so it's a little bit of a drive but the ranch is in a secure and beautiful location. The property is as it is described and the photos are accurate. We enjoyed hanging out at the property in the mornings and evenings, all with the comforts of home. Amenities are provided; however, there was no hand-soap in the bathrooms which is necessary for this COVID-19 situation so my only suggestion would be to provide some hand soap or to notify travelers to bring some. Otherwise we had an excellent stay and would recommend the property to anyone visiting Wilcox area.

We had a very nice time at this home! It was a good location to get to the Chirichuas and Cochise Strong hold and Tombstone. It was very well appointed and we had everything we needed. My only suggestion would be for some kind of water purifier for drinking water. The sulfur smell was significant and I would prefer not to have to buy bottled water. Thank you for opening up your place to visitors!

My husband and I enjoyed our stay. The deck was so nice to sit on and enjoy our morning coffee. The kitchen is well stocked with the necessary equipment. There is lots of reading material about the local history and a huge selection of movies to watch in the evenings. The night sky was amazing as well. The owners were fantastic to work with - responsive an understanding. We enjoyed our stay in mid-December very much. The weather was great as were the sunrises and sunsets. The home is clean, functional, and the kitchen well-stocked. Highlights of our trip included hiking Echo Canyon in Chiricahua National Park followed by lunch at Sandy’s in Sunizona, day trip to Bisbee, and a visit to Marcia’s soap shop in Old Pearce.

Lovely, well equipped home. Far from neighbors and noise. Close to many attractions. It is a bit far from restaurants. We purchased breakfast food and snacks at the Walmart on they way to the house(in Benson). Had lunch when out and about during the day. Worked out great. Enjoyed relaxing in the yard watching sunsets and wildlife each night. Owners couldn’t be more accommodating. Thank you Renee and Steve.

The property was very well kept, clean inside and out. Good location...between Chiricahuas and Apache Stronghold. About 15 minutes from several wineries. Excellent vacation home!
Beautiful, quiet location. Very comfortable house. Kitchen had everything we needed. We appreciated the small cooler that was available; we used it to pack a lunch to take with us on our day trips. We hiked at Chiracahua Nat. Mon. and Fort Bowie Nat. Historical Site, each about 1 hour away. Also visited Tombstone and Cochise Stronghold. Although we are not bird experts, we enjoyed sitting on the porch and seeing hawks, hummingbirds and a family of quail. The owner was very helpful with suggestions about things to do and with information about the house.

Great Astrophotography Safari
I have rent the facilities at the Hummingbird Ranch for 2 weeks for stargazing and astrophotography. It was an incredible experience. The area is remote under a deep dark sky (Bortle class 2) and the Ranch provided great lodging without annoying neighboring pollution lights. The house is very well equipped and perfectly maintained. I rent and install my astronomic gears under the provided Dome and control everything from inside the house via WiFi without any problem. The high local altitude (>4000’) and quasi-desert climate provide a high probability of perfect clear nights (I got 7 in a row during my stay). The owners are very kind and will help as much as possible to make your stay a great success. I will recommend this lodging to anybody who seek exploring the back country with close contacts with nature (stargazing, bird watching, great landscape) and wild west history (Apache stronghold and early settlements).
