About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

1890s stone hayloft overlooking beautiful gardens and courtyard.

Whether you are visiting the Barossa, the Murray River, the Hills, or you just want a relaxing time away from the hustle and bustle, our cottages, built in the 1890s are for you. Cuddle up in front of the lovely wood fire (outside of fire season) in the Stables, or go next door to the 2 storey Hayloft.

The grounds of the cottages are wonderfully peaceful, with a billabong, windmill, firepits, and even emus, geese, turkeys and chooks looking through the fence. To get to the 'secret' cottages, you drive down a hidden driveway, park your car, and then enter the cottages, located on around 1 acre of land. There are ponds, a double hammock, and even a boat to relax on, in the billabong.

Walk to the general store, pub, or cellar door, or hop in the car for a short ride to all the Barossa attractions, the National Motor Museum, the Murray River at Mannum, the Mt Pleasant Farmers Markets, Mt Crawford forest hikes, and much much more. You will sense the history, as the complex was built for the original Herbig family, who lived in the famous tree, located just outside of Springton.

(Longer Term stays negotiable. No Smoking. Hypoallergenic dogs negotiable in Stables by prior arrangement only)

Disliked: Cleanliness
isolated, kitschy and overrun with spiders
I left two nights early. The property is filled with spiders (daddy longlegs and huntsmans) with spider webs everywhere. I cleaned a lot but they return the next morning. Many surfaces were tacky/sticky. There were long strands of dark hair in the bathroom. There are dust balls/old web/grit in all of the corners. The decor is claustrophic and kitsch. There are 3 or 4 pieces of cutlery with melted handles. I sliced my palm on one of them. The light attached to the ceiling fan above the bed comes on after power to the property returns and can only be turned off with the remote control. On my second night the power went out numerous times for an hour or so each time and afterwards the light came on and woke me up. Lots of mosquitoes, probably because of the ponds of still water nearby. Something outside near the pond issues a pitched "ker-bop" every 13 seconds, day and night. Outside of the owners control: Telstra reception is nil. If WiFi goes away, which it did for a day, you can't call anyone. If you drive a few mins outside of Springton towards Mt Pleasant you can get coverage. The cockatoos put up an impressive wall of sound. The Springton Hotel no longer serves food. I was pointedly (but not unkindly) told that it's now a "pub for old fashioned talking and drinking". You get the idea. Overall the place needs a proper and regular clean, fumigation and the cutlery replaced. Perhaps invest in a POTS phone and a UPS for the wireless.
