Bad service, double booked our rooms
We made a booking far in advance. Upon arrival they appeared to have double booked their hotelrooms so even though we already paid for everything we had to spend the whole day looking for another place to stay. The alternative they offered was a hotel in the city center far away from the beach and nothing like the experience we were looking for. Luckily we found some other places to stay but we had to book 2 different hotels because it was busy everywhere. The guy behind the desk wasn't very helpful and showed little interest. I wouldn't recommend staying there. Rather go to Chan Cabanita we had a great stay there right at the beach.

PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING HERE! This property is awful. No Internet, no hot water, the windows protection was broken, and there a lot of insects in a room. Nobody can speak English to explain. The service is awful, no water to drink. Don't look on pictures, they are completely different from what you will see!!! We originally booked here because the pictures made it seem as a cool experience and it looked as though you are on the beach, in actually it is not. The room did not have water nor electricity, nor internet we had to find the internet in another hotel and booked another hotel because it was not safe to stay in this hotel. The guy on front desk was so rude and didn’t want to help. We paid 800$ for 4 nights for nothing because we did not stay at this hotel and they did not money at least part of it. The max cost is 40-50$ because it is like cabin in the wood. I am very disappointed with Expedia because they have to check the places which they sell and provide prices based on place conditions. The manager was lying because they said they will not refuse to reimburse. But we did not get anything back. They had to return at least half. Not the case. I am so disappointed in Expedia for not trying to help. I would not book this hotel. You WILL regret it. Please stay away from this hotel. It is the worthiest experience. When you paid $800 for nothing.

PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING HERE! I originally booked here because the pictures made it seem as a cool experience and it looked as though you are on the beach, in actually it is not. When we arrived after a 2 hour drive to the cabaña we were given a hut. The hut did not have water nor electricity for the 1st part of our stay. When we asked the man at the desk to help us he said he would but I believe he forgot so my friends went to ask him again. With this being said we did not have a fan and were not able to use the bathroom until it was fixed. The bathroom has no separation so the water goes EVERYWHERE. Which led me to fall and hurt my arm and leg on my vacation. I decided to check out and find another place to stay but the guy I believe his name is Jorge told me I had to call Expedia, FYI there is no WiFi and no reception, my phone unfortunately broke during the stay so I was unable to call until I got back to California. Jorge was so rude and didn’t want to help and told me i had to do it on my own. When I refused to leave he asked his boss and his boss explained if I call Expedia they will not refuse to reimburse. Not the case. I am so disappointed in Expedia for not trying to help. I would not book this hotel. You WILL regret it.

Stay away!
I stayed at the Maya Cabanas and Cenote in March /2018. I had a terrible stay that you can read about below but first while I still have your attention I want to first state how disappointed I am with Expedia and their failure to take any responsibility for my bad experience at this "hotel". I wrote them about my experience and all they did was send me a form letter that apologized and asked that they hope they are able to regain my trust and business. Not if I can help it, their customer service is a joke!!!!! Only other guest spoke any english here, the "free" breakfast was nothing more than cereal covered in black flies and coffee......uh no thank you! But the real kicker was I had my cell phone stolen from the window ledge of my cabana while I slept one night. I was in unit #3 and the only plugin in the room was on a window ledge that had no glass but only screen. I didn't notice it until morning when I discovered my phone had been stolen but there was a seem in the screen which allowed staff or other low lifes to slip their hand right threw the screen and take my phone. I'm sure I wasn't the first and I'm sure not the last. Of course it was extremely frustrating trying to get any results from the one staff member who was working the checkin. I'm sure he was aware of it and probably having a good laugh at my expense. If you insist on staying here don't let them stick you in this room but then again they may all have secret access points to rip guest off.

Basic Needs for Low Requirement Guests
Usually, when I am travelling, I tend to book boutique hotels, or more well-maintained four-star hotels. However, this booking was made because I wanted a low-key more eco-resort type of stay. If you are looking for a high-end, all-inclusive resort like stay, this is not the place to be. All the hotels along this strip are eco-based hotels, Nomande Tulum would be the luxe option along the strip, but this hotel, in particular, is quite a good option for those would like to have salt-showers, an open-kitchen for everyone to access (which means, if you rented a car, you can buy some food at the market and prepare it yourself in the evening), and also have access to the beach across the street at the Rosa de Viento Hotel. I chose this hotel, in particular, because it offered a Pet-Friendly stay for an additional 150 pesos a night. We stayed here for the week, with my 5 lb little puppy, and two other friends, and it provided all the basic needs we wanted. We even walked down the strip along the beach and spent the day at the beach at Nomade Tulum, and met some friendly guests there. Be warned, the breakfast at this hotel is really minimal, and only offers orange juice, cereal (chocolate pebbles and corn flakes), and coffee. If you would like something more substantial, Nomade Tulum offers a $20 USD all you can eat buffet that is pretty well-rounded. We also rented a car, so that we can get to the cenotes and scuba diving, but also to drive from Cancun airport, and the ruins.

Hotel close to the beach
If you are used to luxury, find another place! These cabins are cozy but not luxurious! The cabin had one full sized bed and one twin. The mattress on the twin was uncomfortable- this is common in Mexico if you're not staying at a 5 star hotel. The room does not have AC...there are no windows-its mesh that prevents the mosquitos and flies from entering the room. There is a fan. We were there for spring break and it was breezy at night...the birds and their chirping would wake us in the morning and it really felt like we were in the middle of the jungle! The water is hot but there isn't really any water pressure. There is a cenote in the back that you can swim at for free! It was cool to jump in as the water is cold and refreshes you. There was complimentary breakfast (cereal/toast/coffee) every morning, which was very nice. To get to the beach, the hotel across the street gives everyone that stays here free access. The beach lounging chairs, etc. are there but you have to consume 350 pesos worth of food/alcohol. The beach was really nice and we were there and sundown and sunrise!! Overall, I would recommend this to everyone-I was there with my fiance and my three kids ages 11, 8, and 5. They really enjoyed it. The easiest way to get around if you are traveling here with kids is via car-the whole strip of hotels on this side is accessible via car/bike/scooter. There is traffic but walking from here to the restaurants/boutiques would take over 20 min. Many people were on bikes.

Fun in Tulum on a budget
Very hospitable staff, the cabañas are cute & rustic, with hot water. A great surprise that the short trail led to a large cenote surrounded by mangroves and kayaks were complimentary for guests. The short walk to the beach across the street was very nice. The only negatives were the beach breeze didn’t make it across the street, so it was very hot and stuffy & hard to sleep. The ceiling fan couldn’t be felt through the mosquito netting. Also, breakfast is a nice gesture, but expect light fare- toast or cereal and coffee.

This place is what it is. A budget spot that is basic, safe, friendly but no frills. Staff is nice and helpful and access to Rosa de Viento across the street makes it all good. The breakfast is no good but cheap at Rosa.

Nice cabana but nothing more than that
This is not quite as described but if you are looking for basic cabana accommodation then it is nice and simple. You are able to use the beach club over the road which is really nice but there is no breakfast and no cenote that anybody in their right mind would swim in. This is really just a cabana with en suite and nothing more than that! The cabana is well built with good mosquito netting and it is rasied off the ground. For the price it is good value (particularly when compared to other accomodation in the area) but don't expect anything fancy or breakfast. Over the road (rosa del Vienta) the beach club has breakfast, dinner and drinks all day and the beach is probably the nicest part of the whole strip. It is 10km down the beach road so taxis charge around 130 pesos to get to the ruins. This is fairly standard for the area.

Great value for Tulum beach access
We were very pleased with Maya Cabanas and Cenote and admittedly were a little nervous based on some negative reviews we'd seen. It is certainly not a luxury resort, but we did not need nor could we afford that. It is an incredibly relaxing place to stay and with your stay to get access to the beautiful beach at Rosa del Viento. Writing this review now I would love to go back and lay in the hammock after having the pancake breakfast they prepare. The only downside is that this is the last resort on the Tulum beach road so it requires a long taxi ride to get to Tulum city. You might want to consider the cost of taxis when determining where to stay in Tulum. Though, Tulum is very bike friendly and you can easily rent one, I am just not a skilled bicyclist.

We did not stay--
It was completely mis-represented--not on the beach not close--had to access thru another property--the room was bare bones--no chairs--one small light bulb above the entry door--the bathroom had a bare concrete floor that had rust and other stains--this is room #1--we were there about 20 mins--lost all our money
