1. First room booked did not correspond at all to our expectations. Little tiny and no sea view. 2. In second room allocated, we had to interrupt the ait condinioning which was leaking. 3. Third room was nice but staff tried at check-out to apply an extra cost for upgrade, despite the inconvenience we had on first day. 4. Unlike publicized on website, the hotel doesn't have a private beach.

Nice hotel away from the bustle of central venice

Pros: Clean and modern hotel.
Cons: Breakfast ok but nothing spectacular. More hot food would be expected for a hotel which claims to be 4 star.
Location: Easy enough to get to central Venice - 2 mins from the bus stop, a few mins on the bus to the water bus and then direct water bus which takes maybe 15
We had a pleasant stay at this hotel. Hotel is right on the beach, but you have to hire everything including towels and deck chairs. Easy to get to from airport with direct water bus, but this does take some time.

Excellent location but not 4*

For those not wanting to stay in central Venice due to the expense, then the Lido is a very good choice. The hotel is 2 mins from a bus stop with very frequent buses to the water bus station. 15 mins or so on the water bus will get you to San Marco. The problem is describing the hotel as 4 stars when (in my view) it is clearly not. For example, for a 4 star hotel, one would expect fresh fruit juices, fresh coffee, a wide selection of breads and pastries and fresh fruit salad etc. Instead you get orange squash out of a machine, coffee out of a machine, limited selection of items and fruit salad that came straight out of a can. There was also scramble eggs and bacon (the type with more fat than meat though). Room was OK. The very small shower cubicle was a bit annoying. Got some sort of school style plastic chair to sit on. There was only a single piece of paper giving hotel information. (All that was on it was time of breakfast and that you must check out by 10:30am!) Even simple things like a note pad, letter paper etc were missing. My room was ground floor and the windows were frosted and so there wasn't any view. There wasn't a computer for guests' use. No restaurant. Even the maps they give you were just photocopied. None of the comforts you would expect from a 4 star hotel. If the hotel was rated as 3 stars, I would have been reasonably happy. However, I would still recommend it if you are looking for decent basic accomodation away from the centre at a good price.

Great stay at the Petit Palais

Booked a last minute trip to Venice so availability a little limited. We wanted the 'best of both worlds' by staying on the Lido, but having Venice very nearby to visit. This hotel was perfectly situated as there are #land# bus stops for two routes to the Lido-San Maria Elisabetta #water# bus stop very closeby. I was a little concerned by some of the negative reviews but worked out that all those were from guests staying in 'standard' rooms, whereas the reviews from guests in 'superior' rooms were fabulous. Our superior room was spacious and very clean, and the seaview is wonderful #particularly as the double windows go from floor to ceiling#. The staff were cheerful and helpful. And the breakfast was ample - LOADS of variety, even the coffee was great despite reviews to the contrary! I would happily stay here again. It was our first visit to Venice and I would recommend buying the 'long term' public transport tickets UPON arrival - having arrived late at night I paid for each stage of our journey from the airport to the hotel separately, #including a taxi from Lido SME, when the land bus would've been just as easy, and 1.30 - 2.50 euros each each instead of 15 for the taxi fare# I reckon this cost us an extra £50 over the five days of our visit as you can buy Actv tickets, that include the land buses, for 12/24/36/48/72 hours #the Alilaguna line is separate#. The transport system is very convenient once you get used to it. All the usual sights are worth a visit, plus the island of Burano - very pretty.

Three day stay

I choose this hotel on the Lido since I thought we would use the beach and it seemed perfectly located. After reading other reviews about the rooms which face the road, we paid the extra to have sea views. We had a first floor room with a balcony, but it looked over a cycling rack for about 100 bikes and the view was obscured by a tree and the various beach cabins. We found that they were available to hire for a further 22 euros a day, which is hefty since we had already paid the same price for the room as the hotel room we had earlier in the previous week on the Grande Canal!. There is no privacy between balconies and I didn't enjoy looking at the neighbours underwear drying on the plastic chair next door. The room was large, basic furniture supplied and had a very hard bed. Hotel information was a basic sheet of paper in a posh folder that was not sufficient. TV didn't work properly. Worst aspect is a shower that is just an attachment to the taps in the bath with no wall hookup/ means of keeping water away from the floor. Some mould on wall. Toilet squeezed into a tiny space at one end of the room, really weird arrangement of basin on wooden plinth so that you had about 20 cm width between that and the bath. The breakfast was better than other reviewers had commented upon, so maybe changes had been made. It still wasn't great for a 'four star' establishment. Tinned fruit instead of fresh and scrambled eggs and bacon cooked at 7.30 and left to congeal under a mild temperature for three hours until the end of service. However, reasonable choice of bread/rolls and croissants, meat and cheese. On a positive note, the staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the young lady who first greeted us and provided us with a free welcome drink and information with maps for restaurants and buying travel tickets.. They made up for the inadequacies mentioned above. The hotel issued towels for the beach, which I think was free. Bus travel was a swift 10 mins to the public water taxi station. However, overall, it is not good value.

Morgens ist es lärmig von der Strasse her. Abends dafür beruhigt das Rauschen des Meeres. Für uns war es in dieser Jahreszeit abends zu kalt, um noch schwimmen zu gehen. Leider.
