Historic Villa/Classic Food & Wine retreat with Swimming Pool Wifi a/c parking

Located just 10 km from Verona, in the enchanting green hills of the Valpolicella appellation, Villa Sogara is a stunning historic villa (the Emperor of Austria stayed here in 1857) filled with treasures, and built during the 15th century upon Roman ruins. The owners have completely restored the Villa, which contains 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a fully appointed kitchen, dining room, library, music room (with piano), various living rooms and outdoor relaxation areas.

A new swimming pool with a terraced sunbathing patio is surrounded by 10 hectares (25 acres) of picturesque vineyards and orchards. Daily cleaning service, Wi-Fi internet access, air conditioning, two dishwashers, two washing machines, two refrigerators and a dryer are included. This stellar location is ideal for exploring the Veneto and the surrounding area, for attending the many international fairs held in Verona or just for avoiding the chaos of modern life.

Your hosts, Tommaso and Ela Peruzzi, are an accomplished sommelier and chef team. Guests are encouraged to arrange cooking classes, wine experiences and gourmet meals with them in advance. All classes, tastings and dinners are prepared and conducted at the villa so no driving is needed. (Be sure to order the classic Risotto Sogara for a dinner course. Prepared with the Villa-grown Lilium wine, accented with Pecorino with truffles, this is a dish not to be missed.)

The Veneto is a region full of history and tradition, renowned also for local food and wine production. Many interesting sites to be visited are Venice, Vicenza, Padova, and Lake Garda. Nearby, you will find countryside, mountains and seaside, lakes and sea beaches.

Verona is one of the main tourist destinations in north-eastern Italy, thanks to its artistic heritage, several annual fairs (Vinitaly, Fieracavalli, Marmomacc and many others), shows and operas, such as the Opera Festival in the Arena, the ancient amphitheatre built by the Romans.

Because of the value and importance of its many historical buildings, mostly of the Roman and Medieval ages, Verona has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Moreover, Verona is the setting of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

Verona's Natural History Museum contains one of the most valuable collections of fossils and archaeological remains of Europe. Castelvecchio Museum features a collection of sculptures, statues and paintings in a magnificent castle built in 1354-1356.

Genuine Italian experience
This villa is lovely and old and very spacious. The hosts are beyond charming and so helpful. We were able to enjoy being in the country while also being very proximate to cities, towns, wine tasting and other activities, like hilltop hiking. The kitchen was not the most convenient for home cooking for Americans used to a more modern kitchen, but we managed. Our hostess made our first dinner, which was so nice and so delicious. This is an optional add-on.

Perfect base to explore Verona and beyond…
We were a group of 10 (7 adults, 2 children and 1 infant) staying at Villa Sogara for a week in July of 2024. The house was a great base for exploring Verona and many other cities / areas in the surroundings. The pool and AC in the bed rooms were really appreciated in what was a very hot and humid week. The old house is full of charm and quirks and worked well for a large group. Details such as the two dishwashers, two fridges and elevator to the first floor for e.g. heavy luggage, were REALLY convenient! The house is in bucolic surroundings yet a quick 20 min drive from the historic part of Verona - couldn’t be better!

Wow! Best Vacation Ever
If you are dreaming of a truly authentic experience look no further! We were a party of 12 including a 4 year old and 1 1/2 year old. The bedrooms are quite large and there are all kinds of nooks if you want some privacy. Ela taught us how to make pasta and risotto. Tommaso gave us a wine tasting with the wines that are produced from the grapes on the property. 12 out of 10!!

Week vacation in Tuscany
My family (6 adult, 1 18 yo, and 1 9 yo) stayed for 8 days on the property. The host Tommaso was amazing from our initial contact to reserve the Villa to the day of checkout. The Villa was clean and spacious and provided a central location for us to make day trips to Verona, Venice, Florence, and Lake Garda. Taxi service from Verona was easy to arrange, although we rented 2 cars for the week as well. I'm surprised by some of the reviews about the property being in need of updating. It was clear to me after my conversations with Tommaso that the family property was built 600 years ago, renovated in the early 20th century, and then again updated (mainly to the bathrooms and kitchen) in the early 21st century. As such, sometimes the floors creaked and the fixtures were older. It's located in the hillsides of the Verona province on vineyards, so it is a rustic property. But this is what we were looking for. We wanted a place that was comfortable, uniquely Italian with period furnishings and a luxurious yet homely feel. I got exactly that at Villa Sogara. My only issue was that Wifi and cellular service could be spotty at the edges of the Villa. But overall, wifi was available and predominantly fast enough. The surrounding village was easily accessible and convenient. My family members are already planning a return visit. I'd highly recommend this property and the host to anyone looking to spend time in the area.

A wonderful authentic historic family villa. Tomaaso and his family have a passion for the property and the surrounding vineyards, wine & food. Very attentive, always pleased to help. A place of timeless beauty, Don’t expect sleek and modern, But with adequate AC and excellent internet, that was enough for us. We shall remember a wonderful 3 weeks there.

Marvelous place full of character
House feels full of stories and perfect for a large group. The upstairs is sprawling with plenty of comfortable bedrooms for a crowd as well as communal spaces to either gather or quiet corners to get away. The downstairs has a very practical and complete kitchen / laundry / dining areas. The outdoor spaces were our favorites, though, the covered porch/dining area, upstairs loggia, and pool. The pool is clean and fresh and is situated so there is shade in the afternoon. A gate can be closed to protect young kids, and you can hear the pool from the kitchen to supervise teens. The location is near a small town, but not close enough to walk. With a car it is easy to visit Lake Garda and Verona as well as lesser-known (relaxed and not overtouristed!) areas such as Mantova and Vicenza. Venice, Parma, and many other attractions are within an hour. We especially enjoyed the warm welcome of the owners and the tasting they arranged of local products, including of the vines and olive trees on the property. This was a marvelous backdrop for a family reunion and exploring northern Italy. We hope to one day return in other seasons and share with other friends!

Fantastic stay at this villa near Verona - Tommaso and Ella were wonderful hosts. The villa is beautiful, the catering events were also much appreciated by the group. We will try to go back for sure - and would recommend to anyone. The pool and the terrasse are actually larger than they appear on the website - perfect for hot summer days. Many rooms to discover for reading and quiet times in the villa. Plenty of wine tasting, and historical sites to visit nearby. Tommaso is incredibly knowledgeable about wine, and a great source for advice and wine tasting.

Villa Sogara is loaded with fascinating history. The property has been lovingly restored by its owners. We appreciated both the modern conveniences and the historic charm. Excellence at this Villa in the Veneto! First class cuisine and wine experience!
Excellent in every way! The villa has lots of usable space and each room has historic character. We made great use of the piano room for musical nights and the library for quiet time as well. The hosts provide all the extras needed and cater to all your requests -- both pertaining to things needed at the property, and visits to surrounding properties as well. Take advantage of their wonderful services which are not typical of many stays at VRBO-type properties. They will host wine tastings, prepare first class meals, oversee and conduct cooking classes, and open doors for you at local wineries for personal tastings, and even set up visits to the local tortellini-making restaurant & workshop. We highly recommend you try a meal prepared by Ella at the Villa and be sure you ask for the "new classic" Risotto Sogara dish -- made with the Villa's own premier wine, Lilium! We have stayed at over 40 VRBO/AirBnB properties in the past two years and have enjoyed none of them more than our 11 days at Villa Sogara. Lovely villa, great location
We had a really wonderful week here. The owner Tommaso was extremely helpful in the weeks beforehand and booked all of our transportation for us before arrival (none of us wanted to drive). He also organised a fabulous wine tasting at the local vineyard where his very own wine is made (which is gorgeous by the way). If you are into wine he can arrange plenty of tours and is extremely knowledgeable about wine making and tasting! His wife Ella cooked a fantastic four course dinner for us on our first night there - served in the outdoor eating area - it made a brilliant start to the holiday and the food was delicious. The villa itself is very spacious and furnished with original antique furniture - it has lovely views over the vineyards. It has a genuine 'old Tuscan' feel. The air conditioning and the pool were welcome. The pool isn't heated but that wasn't an issue at all as the weather was so hot. There is a daily housekeeping service too. Location wise it was easy to get to Verona (20 minutes) and Lake Garda (45 minutes) by car and we did Venice by train. We booked train tickets online in advance through Trenitalia and all went very smoothly - takes just an hour. The local supermarket (you need transport to get to it) was superb - huge selection of everything you might need including great fresh fish of all types! I'd recommend the opera in Verona Arena if you can do it - it was a real highlight. Tommaso also recommended lovely restaurants. He lives on the site so you know there is always someone around if you need any help. Overall everything was ideal for our needs. It's even near to the airport so you don't have a long journey after your flight. I would definitely recommend it as a perfect base to see and enjoy the Verona area, and the host could not have been more helpful - thank you Tommaso.

Exceeded expectations, an absolute pleasure.
This villa provided the perfect mix of the past and present for our group of 10 people. We got to have the look and feel of an estate with centuries of history behind it, while also still having the necessities we are accustomed to today like Wifi throughout the house, modern bathrooms with enough hot water that you never have to worry about being strategic with taking showers, and dual washer machines, dual dishwashers, and a dryer. Tommaso, his wife Ella and their two children were easy-going and were attentive to any issues or request we had. Communication before the trip and during was not an issue and made planning a breeze. The only complaint we have is that it was on the last day that we found out they had a dog so we weren't able to enjoy her company during the entirety of the stay. For any folks who would not be happy about a dog I want to mention that we really had no clue until we packed up the cars at the end. We never heard a bark and Tommaso stated her personality is closer to an indoor cat so she's relaxed and hidden in their own part of the Villa.

Large villa on beautiful property in quaint area of Valpolicella
Travelling as a group of 7 including 15 month old twins, we enjoyed our time at Villa Sogara. The grounds are spectacular and our kids loved the pool which overlooks the vineyards surrounding the Villa. The hosts were very accommodating and Tommaso went above and beyond in helping to arrange wine tours and transportation for us. The highlight of our stay was a 5-course birthday dinner prepared by Ella which we enjoyed on the loggia. We highly recommend that you indulge in her masterful cuisine during your stay. Thanks so much Tomasso, Ella, Sofia and Emilia!

beautiful property and countryside, with gracious and helpful hosts
Our stay at Villa Sogara was spectacular in every way. The property is so lovely and is surrounded by gorgeous countryside. You really feel that you are away from it all, it is so quiet and peaceful, however the main highway is a short (8 minutes?) car ride so it is easy to get places (Verona, Lake Garda, Venice, Padua, etc). The rooms are comfortable, quite beautiful, and have historic charm and character. The air conditioning in the bedrooms works great, and there are plenty of outlets. The kitchen is old-fashioned in style but is very functional and has a useful array of cookware and plentiful dishes. We had many fun evenings in this kitchen, cooking and talking all together at the big table. The pool was terrific and well-maintained; kids especially loved it. Our hosts, Tommaso and Ella, were wonderful. They are both very friendly and welcoming, and so very knowledgeable and helpful about the details of the visit. Ella prepared for us a meal to have on our first night and it was delicious; she is a terrific cook! And the menu, at her suggestion, was quite thoughtful and turned out to be perfect after a long journey, and with many age-ranges in our group, as it was flexible and varied (a variety of cold dishes combined with several things to reheat on our own schedule). Tommaso arranged a very informative and enjoyable visit to a nearby family-run winery that also prepared olive oil in small, high quality batches. I asked Tommaso a lot of questions by email prior to the trip and he gave us a lot of advice, suggestions, and helpful information about the area. And plenty of good conversations in person when we were at the Villa were also helpful in making the most of our stay. The location is magical. Because our group included older adults and young children, we wanted to keep travel on the light side, and there were so many fantastic choices within 1-2 hours drive from the Villa. Even closer, less than 20 minutes, Verona was visited several times, as well as many of the beautiful nearby smaller towns (for example, Soave). And, Lake Garda and the nearby mountains were simply breathtaking (less than one hour drive) and we felt we could have spent all our time there as it was so beautiful and so many towns and sites to see along the lake. Overall we all felt that Villa Sogara was outstanding. Despite it looking beautiful in the pictures, the pictures do not even do it justice; it is far more beautiful and magical in person!

Beautiful countryside villa with fantastic owners!
We spent a week at Villa Sogara April 24th to May 1st and loved it. First, securing the reservation with the villa owner Tommaso Peruzzi was easy and he was very responsive to emails. This is important when booking over the Internet and really made me feel comfortable with the rental. Upon arriving, Tommaso met us at the gate to this gorgeous property and gave us a nice tour of the villa and outdoor space. It's beautiful with views of vineyards and churches dotting the nearby hillsides. The villa itself is beautifully furnished with antiques and had everything we would want for a relaxing stay. There is also a nice pool, but the weather was a bit cool for us to take advantage of it. Tommaso and his wife are studying to become sommeliers and therefore we had a lot in common right from the beginning because we love wine. He organized a great wine tasting at San Cassiano Winery where we tasted the amazing Valpolicella and Amarone wines. It was a great experience meeting with the winemaker and learning about his techniques and was made more special because Tommaso and Ella and his kids accompanied us. We were treated like family. We spent a great deal of time outside admiring the views and cooked in every night, with the exception of our final night when Ella cooked for us. She prepared a delicious meal starting with a Zucchini flan, a Spring Pea Risotto, Smoked Ricotta Pasta, and a Beef stew cooked in Valpolicella wine. Dessert was a chocolate cake topped with fresh berries and cream. Of course, Tommaso paired each course with a great wine! If you have dreamed for a stay in an Italian Villa in the countryside, this is it! We would love to return someday with more family to enjoy this very large villa!
