Overall great basement apartment in a hip neighborhood for food and proximity to metro/museums
Apartment was great for our family of 4 (2 teenagers) having plenty of space with nice kitchen and living room area. We were in town for a 5 day trip to be a tourist and visit museums. Shaw neighborhood is great for restaurants. Proximity to Metro Center Station is a huge plus for days you don’t feel like making the walk to or from the museums and monuments. Minutes away from CVS and seconds away from a liquor store were a plus. Fun fact is this is the Blanche Bruce House (look it up) and was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1975. Overall a great home base for our family.

Blagden Alley
Overall, we had a great time at this property. Location was perfect and lots of good eats and coffee nearby. Liked the Blagden Alley walk, art, cafés and bars. Felt like finding a secret restaurant/bar that other people didn’t know existed. Unconventional Diner was great and I highly recommend. Also, All Purpose Pizza was great as well as Le Columbe Coffee and the Calico Bar in Blagden Alley; outstanding all around. Metro was right across Convention Center and convenient. The accommodations were clean and everything worked. Some of the furniture is not constructed well but the kitchen and bath were highly functional and clean. 5 stars for that! One thing I would have liked having is a cable TV option to watch all sports and channels (Sunday and Monday football could only be found in Spanish and many other options required paid access) for the “wind down” time in the evening. You will also hear people upstairs moving about at all times of night. First night was the worst with footsteps/walking back and forth above the back bedroom late at night but this got much quieter as the rest of the week went on. We had one evening where the owner’s 18yo kid elected to throw a social gathering upstairs on a Friday night that fortunately quieted down around 10:30. We contacted management and they were very responsive to this and gave us a credit for the hassle. Excellent communication and service the whole way through. Overall, loved the location and history of this spot (Senator Blanche K. Bruce living here) and the cool urban vibe found in the restaurants and bars. Thanks for making our stay in DC a great one.

perfect location
my teenage daughter and i stayed in the property for a week while i had a conference at the convention center. the location was perfect. the kitchen had everything we needed and a grocery store was a short walk away. we felt safe everywhere in the neighborhood. we did a lot of walking, but also enjoyed the metro being a block away, and a few times used Uber which was always quickly available and reasonable. we appreciated having a washer and dryer on site. also it was nice to have enough dishwasher detergent and laundry soap for the week provided. and both a dip coffee maker and keurig were provided (with coffee filters) the bed arrangement was fine for my daughter and I, a queen bed with a set of bunks in the bedroom. it would not work if you were looking for more privacy between beds. only small downsides -tap water had an off taste and there did not seem to be a working water filter -mattress on the bed was lower quality than the rest of the furnishings (it was too soft and you could feel the coils.) you could hear people on the floor above the bedroom, they seemed to be having dinner about the time we were settling for bed -my daughter did school work while i was gone and we could not get the lights above the desk in the bedroom to work these were all small things, we would stay here again for any DC trip, but especially if we were attending an event at the convention center

Easy subway access
You don’t need a car with the subway so close. Good communication from Charlotte, but the broken ice maker wasn’t addressed. The washer did get repaired while we were there. The queen bed and bed linens need to be replaced. Terrible mattress and the bedcover has holes in it, the sheets and pillows are pilled…..just worn out. Location is good. Interesting history on the house. Cleaning lady was very nice. Charlotte checked in on us the second day of our stay to address the needed appliance repairs.

Great location
The location of the property is excellent. The apartment has all facilities as advertised and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay, walks to the Mall and easy metro travel to other museums. Some constructive comments: 1) We found the bed uncomfortable with the coils having not much lining on top; we resorted to using the duvet of the bunk as a mattress toping to get a bit more comfort. 2) We arrived late on Friday after-hour. Access information is excellent, except we found the bathroom door locked in the inside. I tried to call afterhour/ emergency number but there was just a recorded message and we did not receive any returned phone call for the rest of our stay. Fortunately my partner had a pin and managed to get the bathroom door opened for use. 3) Thirdly, we felt some freshening up of the apartment internally (eg. curtain washing, window cleaning) and some tidying of the building ground (some sweeping of the entrance steps, garden planting tidying...) would make the apartment much much more attractive and pleasant.

Great location, nice and clean
We loved staying at this location! It was clean, and close to so many activities. The only downside was whoever stayed in the unit above us liked to walk across the unit at all hours of night, and that was noisy. That being said, we would stay at this place again!

Close to metro, very nice flat!
We stayed in this area of DC prior but having a nice large flat to stay in was wonderful! Well stocked with all you need, drip & Kureg coffee makers, full size frig, dishwasher, oven/stove, dishes etc… Very close to Metro ! One block away!! Many great places to eat close by and grocery store within easy walking distance. My only suggestions would be to have nightlights, floor or table lamps, refresh with new pillows ( beds were comfortable), and have sign marking flat outside door( we thought we were up the stairs) - this is ground or sidewalk level (lowest level of building but very updated & clean), outside entry could be more inviting. Overall a wonderful stay!

Nice apartment, great location
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. The apartment is located in the Shaw neighborhood, which has excellent, interesting restaurants (e.g., Ethiopian, Sushi, Italian, French), all within walking distance. The apartment is on the lower level of a row house. It was fairly quiet, even though it is located close to 9th St NW. The Sushi restaurant, Zeppelin, was exceptional, as was the Ethiopian restaurant (Chercher). There's a nice coffee shop around the corner in Blagden Alley (La Colombe). The building art in Blagden alley is amazing. There is a Giant grocery store a few blocks away and more limited grocery selections are available at Union Kitchen, which is closer to the apartment. The apartment is nice, but not great. The queen bed has a VERY soft mattress and the headboard isn't well-secured and moves around when you shift positions. The dressers in the bedroom are very cheaply made. The bottom drawer in one of them doesn't have a bottom panel. Despite these issues, the unit was fine and we would definitely consider staying there again. I would strongly recommend that the owners/managers replace the bed and the dressers, however.

Snowstorm getaway
The property was perfect and in a great location. We walked to the National Mall the first day (even in 25 degree weather) and learned the Metro quickly (only a few feet from the house). Great dining nearby. Only mishap was trying to get into the door, keypad didn't light up easily and we struggled to get in. But the app helped and Charlotte responded quickly and we figured it out! Get parking before you come if you have a car, there is NO parking. We did Parking Panda/Hot Spot and got into a covered secure garage about a block away for less then 20$/day. Would recommend this property highly!!!

Steps from Metro, Very Nice
This property was perfect for our needs (mom with kids ages 18, 19, and 20). It is literally steps from the metro - which is important for hot and weary folks returning after a long day of sightseeing! Grocery store is 2 1/2 blocks away. A/C works really well - a bonus for DC in July! A prior review mentioned the top bunk not feeling very sturdy - my 20yo was not too concerned about sleeping there but we did notice that it "sounded" rickety and made noise every time he rolled over. I slept in the living room - not a pull-out sofa (which would be a lovely addition to the property) and there was some confusion about that - but the owner graciously provided the combo to the owner's closet so we were able to get additional bedding for the couch and I managed by moving the ottoman and chair to create the effect of a bed. There would also be ample room between the living room/dining room for a blow-up mattress though we did not go that route. Price was reasonable for a nice 1BR close to metro. I wouldn't recommend it for two couples but for this mom and 3 young adult kids it was perfect.
