The space
The Historic Brickhouse Vacation Home and the Brickhouse Coffee & Kitchen are housed in a building that dates back to 1848, built by early settlers, and is one of the original homes in Refton. During the 1860s, the Pennsylvania Railroad Company laid tracks through the villages and farms, with the railroad line passing just across the road. For the next century, the building served as a residence on one side and a general store and post office on the other, becoming a frequent stop for travelers, railroad workers, and locals alike.
In 2018, the Fisher family purchased the home, and they proceeded to update the residence and renovate the store, opening the Brickhouse Coffee & Kitchen later that same year. The cafe has been a hit with locals ever since, boasting a fantastic menu for breakfast and lunch, as well as a cold case with baked goods and drinks. Each guest of the vacation home receives a complimentary voucher for any beverage.
As an Amish-owned home, there is no TV available, allowing families to disconnect from distractions and spend quality time together. However, WiFi is available for guests to use, as the family understands the need for connectivity.
Guest parking is shared with café patrons, with one designated spot reserved for vacation home guests, and extra parking available in the overflow lot. The vacation home itself features five large bedrooms, a sizable dining area, and a living room, offering ample space for relaxation. Guests can also enjoy provided board games, outdoor games, and a firepit. Moreover, there is a sunroom available for al fresco dining, and guests are welcome to use the outdoor eating area located behind the cafe.
