The house was a great place for my family to stay. It is not super close to the beach, but a short drive takes you to a ferry for Cape lookout, or to Atlantic beach. A few things that you should know, the house is really bright. This is a plus, but it also meant my kids were awake really early with the sun. I suggest a sleep mask for mornings if you like to sleep in. The sound also carries through the house really well, so if you are bringing kids who like to play keep in mind that it's not going to be super quiet because you can hear them through the whole house. Those were the only drawbacks, and by far they weren't that bad, I just want others to be aware. We were very surprised at how bright the house was in the morning.
The house itself was so beautiful and relaxing. Lots of wildlife all around. There was a nest of ospreys right in the backyard, and a gorgeous sunset. We spent most evenings drinking our tea on the balcony watching the birds and wildlife in the bright pink sunset. It was the perfect way to relax. It was in a somewhat secluded area, few neighbors and they were very quiet. I felt very safe taking my daily exercise run down the road, which was about a half mile one way (a bit less than one mile out and back.) We would usually go out in the morning and have an adventure- the horses or beach at Cape lookout and shackelford, Atlantic beach, ft Macon, or the aquarium etc, and then come back to the house for a relaxing evening by dinner. The kitchen was great, very roomy with all the equipment my husband and I needed to make dinner most nights. For groceries there's a food lion in Beaufort and a small mom and pop type grocery that is right on the way to the Cape lookout ferry (not a huge selection of products, but very very friendly people/owners!)
In all it was just the vacation we were looking for.
