Adorable South Addition neighborhood was originally designed for military families during the Alaska statehood days and quickly became a sought after housing destination as Anchorage continued to grow. It is one of the most desirable areas to live in Anchorage! Amazing Fire Island Bakery is 2 blocks from the apartment as well as New Sagaya City Market for any groceries you may need. Take a walk downtown to explore, visit the local Saturday Market or watch the large kites soaring on the Delaney Park Strip (5 short blocks). The famous Coastal Trail is a destination as well without needing a vehicle! Hop right onto the Chester Creek Trail just down the street and wind your way around beautiful Westchester Lagoon which then connects directly with the Coastal Trail. Renting a bike would be great for this as well!
Close to everything you need to explore historic downtown Anchorage, museums, restaurants and the vast array of outdoor activities. Or, hop right on the road and take a day trip to Girdwood (30-40 minute drive depending on traffic)! Visit this sleepy ski haven in the winter for world class skiing, or in the Spring/Summer/Fall for an abundance of hiking, mountain biking & wildlife viewing. Be sure to keep an eye out for Beluga whales and Dall sheep as you drive along Turnagain Arm! You don't have to travel outside of downtown to enjoy wildlife sightings though - moose walking the streets of downtown Anchorage, eagles soaring low through the city and even the occasional black bear (though less common) are a common occurrence.
Downtown Anchorage is an urban setting. The speed limit throughout all of downtown Anchorage is 35 mph and some traffic/street noise can be heard during normal commute times. If you are looking for round the clock silence, I would recommend finding a rental in the "Hillside" area of Anchorage (15-25 minutes from downtown depending on location and traffic).
