We'll be back!
If you are looking for a laid back, secluded and cozy home base while exploring Taos, Arroyo Seco and Taos Ski Valley, Alto Salto is your place! The property is amazing but could use some TLC. Previous reviews have mentioned cleaning and maintenance issues. Gas range needs attention. Dishwasher should be secured so it doesn't tip out when open. Some bedding needs updating. Dumpster was full. Definitely need 4x4 to get up the drive. Pro tip: remove silver jewelry before getting in the hot tub! Glen the caretaker was great, answered questions quickly and scrambled to get us in on time. Overall great experience. We'll be back!

Great spring break trip w the fellas!!!
3 dads, sons and buds snowboard trip to Taos Ski Valley. Road up to house is as advertised, bumpy w lil rough terrain and AWD/4WD is recommended. Great view, plenty of room(3 bedrooms and a study) and 25 min door to slope easy ride. Washer/dryer excellent ✔️ kitchen excellent ✔️ Couches/sleeper part needing to be replaced, downstairs bathroom shower handle needs to be re done or replaced, TV instructions in living area might be helpful, we happily bought new paddles and balls for ping pong table(needs new net as the other is kind of rigged up) as all the others were torn up in a basket. Kitchen and living area a great set up for meals and group. If dine out do a lil prep each day w a plan(hours of operations for restaurants, travel time, etc) as drive back into town for meals or take out is about 20 mins. Once again, we enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this property/area.

Place was great. It was everything we needed for the weekend. Furniture was dated and had some issues. Some of the bedding just needs to be replaced. But nothing that kept us from enjoying our time. Thanks

Beautiful property but with maintenance issues
Alto Salto is a beautiful, secluded property with stunning views overlooking Taos. That being said, there were many maintenance issues that have not been remedied as was pointed out in a previous two-star review. There is a gas odor emanating from the stove and only one burner would light. The outdoor grill lit for five minutes then went out as we were trying to cook a steak. There are two unusable doors including the main entrance. The handle on the door going to the back fell off as I tried to open it. It was warm during our stay so we opened the windows. There are holes and cobwebs in the screens letting flying insects inside. One of the knobs came off as I was attempting to open one of the screens. The master shower head needs to be replaced as water spirted out from all sides hitting the window and making for an uncomfortable shower. There are outdated TVs and we were unable to get them to work. The sofa in the living room is broken. The dishwasher comes out from the wall and the bottom rack falls off. I wanted to hand wash the dishes and looked for some detergent under the sink, only to find an empty bottle. In spite of these issues, we spent many hours on the lovely porch enjoying the view. The landscaping invites many birds to the flowering plants and the minute I put up a hummingbird feeder, I had numerous takers that swarmed and were a delight to watch. With the maintenance issues resolved, this place would definitely receive a five-star review.

Stunning view. Large house with plenty of room for us to spread out. Location was perfect for our daughter, who lives in Taos, to stay with us and go to work at TSV. Communication with property management and caretaker was great. An upgrade of TVs would be appreciated but would not keep us from staying again. Could only help with doing 1 load of laundry when we left due to lack of laundry soap, sorry for this. Definitely recommend.

Amazing experience at Arroyo Seco!
We came on our annual trip to Taos for the Lighting of Ledoux Street. Getting to stay at Arroyo Seco was beautiful. The views are amazing. The house was perfect for our family. Plenty of fun things to do at the house. The kitchen was well stocked and easy to cook large meals in. House was clean and comfortable. We also loved the hot tub. Great time for our entire family!

Beautiful property
This was such a beautiful area and was exactly what we were looking for in terms of location. You can't beat the view from the hot tub! Our only quibbles would be little things like the dishwasher wasn't bolted in so we were so nervous to have it tip out. There were two fire places and an outside fire pit, but only a few sticks of firewood and nothing to clean ashes out. We went and got our own wood, but it was hard to find because the few places we looked at the wood was green. The property could do with some refresh, i.e bathroom fixtures, missing screens, but it had a great variety of books and many hours were spent on the ping pong table. Overall, we truly enjoyed our stay and the area!

Better than expected
Whoever is doing the promo pics for this property should get fired. This place is SO MUCH BETTER than the pics. If you are looking for a remote, scenic, spacious, and comfortable place to be with family or friends this is your place. We were there at the end of May so getting there wasn't too difficult, but I could see it being necessary having a 4x4 when there is snow. The place is much bigger than the pics imply. The master bedroom could be a house on it's own. The house sits up the mountain from the neighboring village and Taos. The views are amazing. This is a great spot to jump off and tour Taos, go skiing or hiking, go sightseeing, or do things at the Rio Grande (you can see the gorge from the patio) If I get to come back to northern New Mexico this will be the 1st place I will look for lodging. It was so much better than expected.

just okay
This house is in the middle of nowhere. you must have a 4x4 to get to the front door. i was told by the property manager that their was abundant "Staple" supplies in the house but there were not... no salt/spices, only one roll of paper towels, one dish towel and a few garbage bags. The garbage bins were full from the last guest and the gas grill was under a crusty snow bank. The hot tube is very small - like okay with two love birds but not cool with 4 dudes after skiing. There are two DVD players in the house but NO DVD remote controls so you can not get pass the main screen of 90% of the movies. This was super frustrating because we brought our own DVD's to watch. The kitchen stove is cool looking but a bit of a pain. the griddle takes 30 minutes to heat up for eggs and the grease trap huge and just hanging out there.

Thanksgiving in Taos
The house was perfect for a quick Pre Thanksgiving get together in Taos area. The house is large and clean, exceptional views and the deck is great for gathering outside. The weather was perfect and the views overlooking the valley and Arroyo Seco were fantastic. Hiking was available directly out the back door and more trails off the road. We used the grill to make dinner and the kitchen is large and comfortable for preparing meals. Because of COVID, we only left the house one time in four days, bringing out food and drinks with us and then just settling in for a great long weekend. Highly recommend this home as a place to stay.

Amazing
The pictures don’t even do this beautiful property justice! This was my first vacation rental experience a d I think I just got spoiled. Everything I read said to bring kitchen stuff if you can because they aren’t usually equipped well... not this gem! That kitchen was goals as is, no additions needed. The property was nestled in a beautiful setting, the house was meticulous, the outdoor space was amazing (we even did some amateur family photos 😉), the hot tub was great, the master suite tub was even greater, the space was comfortable and I can’t wait to return someday soon. All around our family had an amazing time. And our kids can’t wait to go back to “the big house”.

Beautiful views
The pictures don't do it justice, the views are incredible, so many stars at night too. The house was beautiful and very comfortable except from 2-6pm when it would heat up too much that we'd be forced to get out to see the sights. Nice and remote, it's about 30 min from everything. The road was fine in our trucks. No air conditioning, but there were fans provided in the bedroom closets. The griddle and ovens were too tricky for us. We ended up only using the gas stove top and countertop toaster oven. Excellent selection of pans, but nothing nonstick. The grill outside flamed up big when we preheated it one night. The fire extinguisher was handy and the manager game out the next day to clean it. Skylights mean you can't sleep late in the master bedroom, but otherwise comfy. Having a shower with a view was awesome. My 6yr old loved the selection of disney VHS and the ping pong table.

Originally we were only going to stay 4 days but we extended to a week. The drama of watching the sunrise alone was worth the trip. Chipmunks, red squirrels, lizards and butterflys in the garden. A couple more ice trays would have been handy but that's about the worst I can say. Daughter loved the hot tub and the game room.

Expanded Family Ski Retreat
We loved this house. Very comfortable with great furnishings and amenities. We particularly liked the highly functional kitchen and the hot tub at the end of a long ski day. Great location nestled between the ski slopes and Taos (30 minutes from either). The local neighborhood - Arroyo Seco - is charming and has at least two excellent restaurants right there. Fortunately, we managed without chains or snow tires, but would not try that again due to steep elevation to driveway and the road out.

Christmas at Alto Salto
Our family had a Great time in this home. There were several minor problems with lights burned out, dirty dishes/pans left by previous occupants hidden in the oven, less than clean kitchen sink and master spa tub. There was also a serious gas leak from the cook stove that took several days and hours to fix. (We had several family members have severe headaches and nausea. We smelled the gas upon first entering the property so very important that this be taken care of) The other things were rapidly taken care of by the property keeper, which we appreciated. Before we left, there was a leak under the kitchen sink and in the roof over the dining room table. Hopefully these things were taken care of before the next occupants. We were a family of 10 and occupied all beds including 2 hide-a-beds, which were not comfortable but the other regular beds were quite comfortable. The views were outstanding of the valley below, including sunsets each afternoon. There were plenty of nooks for anyone to read a book, watch TV or our college age grandkids to play video games/watch movies and could close off their noisy rec area. We were also lucky to have a "White Christmas" as the snow began Christmas Eve and continued to Christmas Day. The hot tub was a great place to go after a day of skiing/snowboarding. The radiant floor heating was much appreciated during the cold days we spent. We could see how this home would be a beautiful place in the warmer months as well.

This property was very private, which was perfect for us. We brought our dog and she had a blast exploring the mountain behind the home. The view of the valley from the patio was awesome-every morning I had my coffee outside enjoying it. And the sunset views were spectacular. I would definitely recommend this home to anyone going to Taos.

Views forever
This is at least the fourth time we have rented this property. It’s a great home base in Arroyo Seco, near the ski valley and Taos as well. The hot tub is wonderful after a hike. The setting is peaceful and the view is spectacular . One can see the gorge in the distance. Only downsides would be the internet service isn’t great but kind of expected in the mountains. Lots of bugs get in the home as well but it’s located in the wilderness so also not surprising. Great lay out and lots of room for family to spread out.
