Good location
Location is perfect for those taking train the next day. Staff is helpful even though they still cannot speak English confidently. It would be great if they can work on that.

Kind of posh for a tourist
The hotel was very business like - and full of bling - the service was okay - you can walk to the subway and to walmart in maybe 10 minutes

Took Me Hours to Check In
The hotel didn't have my reservation record and didn't allow me to check in even after I showed them a copy of confirmation. It took them hours to find my reservation record before I was allowed to check in.

At first sight this place looks amazing but I would never stay here again and here's why, the temperature controls in the rooms (AC) simply does not work, after switching three rooms we realized that neither one of them is functioning, when we complained to the staff about temperature being too high, we were told to open the windows, and if you do open windows you'll hear this crazy traffic noise outside, the last room we stayed the toilet did not flush at all and every time we called front desk they would send maintenance guy with plunger and he would make it flush just that one time and next time around we would need to call them again, for people who does nos smoke be aware! in China overall especially in this place they smoke like there is no tomorrow, we got to elevator and this Chinese dude jumps in with lid cigarette, and when hotel stuff tells you that from seventh floor and up it's not smoking, it's not correct, they smoke everywhere and on every-floor, our reservation was in non smoking room but front desk girl put us in smoking room and when I complained about it, she tried to say this the room we booked and then I raised my voice just a little bit and she gave me this famous Chinese OK, OK, OK, and send to room that toiled did not flush, maybe a brand name hotels would be better next time,

Good hotel in a great location
We found the value of this hotel to be exceptional; low cost with suitable comfort, amenities, and location. The Guidu Hotel is conveniently located near the line 4 subway from which you can move about the city quite easily using the rail system. The business-level room was large and comfortable. The bathroom was also large and had both a tub and shower. There was a decent breakfast and the spa was reasonably priced. Try a foot massage after walking around Beijing and climbing the Great Wall. Internet was available for free and the speed was decent. We visit Beijing a couple times each year for business and will definitely return to the Guidu.

Excellent hotel
Excellent stay in this impressive hotel which seems to be striving for that 5th star. Located in xuanwumen it is located 5-10 minute walk to caishikou metro station which will get you to the airport via the airport express in about an hour or to the centre of Beijing in about 15 minutes. I even managed to walk to to the hotel from tiananmen square which took me just under an hour past some lovely hutongs and many interesting novelty shops along xinhua street. Near the hotel there are some outstanding restaurants in the muslim district around niu jie. The hotel building is stunning with a lovely interior. The rooms were clean and serviced daily. Receptionists were extremely efficient and helpful. All in all I cannot fault this hotel and would definitely stay there again.

the hotel was situated close to Tianananmen square and the temple of heaven. the hotel itself is nice yet im unsure as to whether it is a 4 or 5 star hotel. it looks like a 4 star hotel but the rooms could be maintained a bit better. There was a huge communication problem for us as none of the staff spoke english. So there is not much help if you need advice on how to get to places, so would find information on the internet of how to get to places via train or bus or cab (make sure you print the name in chinese). We also had problems trying to convert GB Pounds into Chinese Yuan as they would not accept our notes - as apparently they were old?! Also do keep an eyeout for fake money. Through the ATM machine at the hotel we got a fake 100 chinese yuan note. overall, its a decent hotel in a decent location.

Excellent Value
Modern business hotel with real marble stone finish in bathroom -new 40" flat screen TV - internet service. Large size rooms - separate bath and shower stall in bathroom. Very help full staff. Excellent value for western and/or Chinese style unlimited hot buffet breakfast. Lots of choices to select from - 6 congees, meats, fried noodle, rice, pastries to fruits, salads and vegs. There is a walmart about 900 metre away. Only draw back is 500 metre walk to subway and traffic noise. The district is a bit run down to the subway with a daily farmer's market in the back. A clean medium size market stall mall is just across the street. This should change in a year or two since a lot of the homes on both sides of the main road is being torn down for redevelopment. If you can walk it is a good choice hotel. I would rate this up with the other Chinese chain -5 star hotels that I stayed in Beijin, Hong Kong, Macau, and Xi'an . I would book this hotel again. A Canuk review.

Will Not Go Back
The hotel staff was not friendly at all, except the concierge staff. When we first arrived, the front desk staff made us feel like we were an inconvience. I can understand the language barrier, but making us feel unwelcome arriving and leaving was very unprofessional from someone that has been in the customer service industry. The hotel is located in an older part of Beijing. I would not recommend this hotel.

Not for international travelers
The hotel wasn't bad overall, but it's definitely not targeting international travelers, especially tourists, as its core market. The rooms were decent sized, for a business hotel in Asia. The condition and amenities were reasonable - nothing significantly wrong but not exceptional either. The problem I had was that very few of the staff spoke any English at all - even in very guest-facing roles like reception. In the 5 days I was there, I only ran into three people who spoke sufficient English to be able to answer basic questions. Most only knew a few very basic words and phrases, or none at all. Moreover, the location is pretty far out there. It's not convenient to the metro system, and I couldn't find any reasonable restaurants or convenience stores within walking distance. You can usually hail cabs outside, but given the layout of the hotel grounds, the staff won't be able to help you with that - you'll need to go to the edge of the road and wait yourself. Overall, if you can speak Mandarin and need to be in this specific area for business or other reasons, then the hotel is fine, especially for the price. However, as I'm guessing many people reading this aren't fluent in Mandarin and are looking for a hotel to base themselves for sightseeing, I can't recommend it. There are a number of Western tourist oriented hotels closer to the Forbidden City with comparable quality and prices, but with plenty of staff fluent in English.

Clean/Comfortable/Subway close but staff lacks many basic English skills
The good: The hotel is a 5-7 minute walk from a train station that will connect you to just about any attractioin in 30 minutes or less. I'm a walker so I was able to walk to most places in 1hr or less... The room was clean and comfortable, a robe, slippers and two bottles of water were provided daily. I was also brought up a converter and iron/ironing board witin minutes of asking for them. The one assistant manager who did speak English (she was the only one who spoke more than 10 words) was lovely and treated me like a friend. The Bad: Contrary to what it lists on the Hotel and Orbitz website hotel shuttle service to/from the airport is not provided. The hotel was under construction as was the builing next to it so my view was of a construction site and if I ever was in the room between 9-5 I could count on hearing driling/hammering. The "concierge" service involved sending you to the hotel business center where you could look up and book your own tickets online and then be charged for using the computer. Credit cards were not accepted anywhere in the hotel...not even for the deposit. If I had stayed in anything less than a four star hotel I would not have been so taken back by the lack of English speaking staff but considering this is listed as a four star hotel I had a very hard time communicating my needs. Think twice before you stay here if you'll need any help with anything outside of checking in or out!!!

Good comparative value
The Guidu hotel seemed to be well represented by its photos and listed amenities except for their bed size. It was in a reasonably good location with the closest metro station less than 0.5 miles. The room was very clean but pretty small. When I first walked in the room I noticed, of course, the double bed when I had clearly booked a king bed. I went back immediately to registration and after calling the manager and a few other staff members in they told me that their king bed was really a double size. We got a reasonable rate but my booking was still based somewhat on the king bed I usually reserve. The little English they could speak was polite but it didn't help my concern with the bed and I wasn't in the mood to argue the case. I had already shown my reservation details. So we let it ride. Otherwise when we needed help the staff was mostly helpful. Before arriving I had called to ask about booking a Great Wall tour from there, which they assured me they could help with. However, once there they didn't seem to know anything about that service. I ended up going down the street a few blocks to a travel agent that helped me. I was overall satisfied with the Guidu because I got a good rate for booking early. I would have been much less satisfied if I had paid their standard rates.
