Dunes Lodge is a newly-restored mid-century modern home in Laketown, Michigan originally built-in 1961. The lodge is easily accessible yet privately secluded in 4 acres of woods with Lake Michigan's finest beaches just a bicycle ride away and resort towns of Saugatuck/Douglas and Holland less than five minutes by car.
The lodge features four outdoor spaces directly connected to the house--a cozy porch for morning coffees, a sunny upper deck for lounging, a family-sized patio for dining. A firepit at the forest edge brings the family together for nightly campfires. A huge grassy backyard and woodland path makes the home both spacious and intimate, perfect for generational families.
The modern home has been updated with all new appliances and technology. The entertainment and high-speed indoor/outdoor wi-fi networks are the best and newest available. Both the main room and master bedroom feature full surround-sound theatres for watching large-screen televisions and music can be streamed to hi-fidelity outdoor sound systems on the deck, porch, and both patios.
The stunning design of the house and grounds was done by Hong Kong-based sculptor and media artist Scott Hessels, who preserved and updated its distinctive architectural angles and woodwork. The artworks in the house are from his personal collection and feature unique pieces with colorful histories. The original handmade cabinetry and staircase--a beautiful riot of lines and angles--have been restored and are now listed as heritage mid-century architectural landmarks. The grounds contain centuries-old maples, pines, and oaks, with a rhododendron garden and a range of locally-grown native trees.
