First off, this is NOT an Upscale hotel, let's get that out in front. It's an older hotel that has some room privately owned and operated by "Host ". With that being said, the only difference is that as a hotel guest, you can get fresh towels daily and have your roomed cleaned. The location is "TREMENDOUSLY CENTRALIZED" for the WAIKIKI area. We took the BUS everywhere and the bus stop was directly across the street from the Bamboo (our VRBO). Bus fare is $3.00 a trip or $7.50 US for a full day pass. There's a "restaurant " on-site, but honestly, it sucked. We ordered fries and onion rings, they both arrived warm at best. We informed the waitress(Amber) she then explained that it wasn't their normal distributor and they were using what they could get. Ok no biggie, but when we tipped only $10%, for the next 5 days, we were treated like we had the PLAGUE! That too Sucked, again not a deal breaker because you could bring in your own alcohol and they had a bbq grill. The restaurant was closed 3 days due to" computer issues". The room is an older styled and aged. It had a hot plate, microwave, bar sink and a mini fridge. We tried using the hot plate but it started to smoke up the room, so we never used it again. The TV guide only let you see the shows, but you could not scroll up and down in the guide. We brought our Amazon cube, so that solved our problem. We met other guests that said their rental had a full sized fridge. There's 3 laundry areas, each just having one washer and dryer, they cost $3.00 per load payable by credit or debit card NOT COINS or CASH. The pool and hot tub are small, luckily they were never busy, so we were not impacted. Another quirk is that your room key does not open the bathroom at the pool, so you have to use the bars key, which is OK, if it's open, otherwise you have to go to front desk to have an attendant open up the door, strange.
Our room had 3 balconies, kinda cool, and 2 of them looked down at the pool area, nice. The on-site bbq is old, but I managed to rock it for 4 meals.
We'd come back and stay again. Nice stay if you're not needing to be pampered.
