Thank you for considering On The Bend! A special piece of property with the Clam River flowing along three sides of the cabin. You will want to be outside as much as you can, enjoying the river, the woods, campfires, and the nearby trails. Our favorite part of the cabin is that while the location is secluded and private, it's not far from so many things. A quick 30-35 minute drive will take you to Harrison, Cadillac, Lake City, Houghton Lake, and Clare. A slightly longer drive (75 miles), will take you to the Traverse City area. Use the cabin as a peaceful home base with starry, campfire evenings, and go enjoy some of the area trails, lakes, and other attractions. Bring your hiking shoes or your ORV's for endless exploring.
Sleeping Arrangements: The main bedroom has a new king bed and an amazing view of the river through french doors. The second bedroom has a new queen bed. The living room has two newer fold-out sofas. The cabin can accommodate 6-8 people with two beds and two fold-out sofas.
Kitchen: Comes equipped with generous amounts of "the basics". Pots, pans, standard coffee pot, toaster, electric griddle, crockpot, microwave, gas stove, serving dishes, basic spices, full-sized side-by-side refrigerator/freezer.
Bathroom: We recently renovated the bathroom with all new walls, floors, and fixtures. The tub is nice and deep for a good soak after a long day of kayaking.
Cabin amenities: The cabin has games, books, magazines, some movies, a television, and a DVD player. Towels, linens, and dish towels are provided.
WiFi: There is "rural" WiFi available that provides a basic connection to email, some streaming (Netflix comes in best), and other basic internet functions. You won't be able to stream video games very well and office functions like Zoom and Google Meet are hit-and-miss - not to be counted on.
Outside: We provide the firewood for your campfires so no need to bring any. There is a fire pit by the river with a picnic table. There is a park-style charcoal grill near the picnic tables for outside cooking (our preference!). The lawn is big enough for yard games, so don't forget to pack your favorites.
The River: The Clam River is shallow in some places and deeper in others. It alters between a sandy river bottom and river stones. It's great for kayaking or playing on innertubes and has been known for great trout fishing.
Consider packing: yard games, favorite DVD's/games (for rainy nights), bug spray, charcoal/lighter fluid, lake shoes, toiletries, toys for the kids, radio, fishing gear, camp chairs.
Property limits: Satellite TV is not provided. You can use your phone hot spots but with limited reception so please contact us with specific internet and cellular reception questions. The cabin is in the woods, on the river, so expect to see bugs and mosquitoes. We work hard to keep these intrusions to a minimum but please expect "nature". There is no air conditioning however, the cabin usually stays cool and the provided box fans pull cooler air off of the river in the evening. Our cute cabin will always have projects that need to be finished. We've recently completed some major structural renovations including siding, roofing, doors, windows, and new exterior walls. It will take us some time to get all of the interior details finished up, like trim, but we're working on it all the time.
Spring and Fall Guests: There is no central heating system in the cabin. We have propane heat in the dining room and living room but you will need to use space heaters (provided) in the bedrooms if it's chilly. Central heat is a goal for future years but in the meantime, we love snuggling up under the covers and waking up to flannel-inspired mornings.
Number of guests allowed: Our absolute maximum for guests is 8 people, including any of your overnight visitors or people staying in tents. The septic system gets overwhelmed by too many people bathing and using the water, so we will have to ask you to find other accommodations if you have a party larger than 8. Please ask if you have any questions about space limits.
